Default Speedmaster on HRG

Did anyone else see this episode this morning? Put heads on a 454 with Speedmaster rockers and hardware. Said they paid like a $1050 for the set. Engine made 472 hp 473 trq it will interesting to see how long it last as is. They are putting it in a 74 vette so should be fun to see how it goes for them.

Yep - great episode and I started late. Didn't catch what cam they put in the engine.

Huge upgrade over the original 1974 Vette engine, They probably weren't focused on pro mod performance but something to put alot of miles on in a frugal manner

People do that

They picked the vette for emissions in California.

1975 and older vehicles are emissions exempt in California.

Definitely didn't intend to make it seem that way. I guess the better way to put it is ....472hp with a BBC with aluminum heads is pretty lame..when a stock appearing Pontiac engine..or a BBC can put out the same power.
One of my own personal favorite engines I had was a 455 with 6x 4 heads crower 60919 cam rhoads lifters and 1.65 rockers..great engine and certainly not boring and not even close to 500hp.
Is there a link for the episode ? I'm curious on the carb intake choice.

I have to concur, my brother some years ago had a 454 with iron retangular heads and a mild HFT cam that dynoed just over 500hp; not a big deal. I would expect Street Master to do a tad better than that or why would anyone pay good money when factory heads can get you there much cheaper (or free if you already have a good set). Just sayin'

I haven't seen the episode and there hasn't been any mention which streetmaster head they used. Their site lists a few. Interestingly they don't publish any flow numbers that I could find. I'm going to guess they aren't stellar.

The 230 cam is a baby cam for that size engine, so I'm guessing this thing doesn't have any compression either, and no mention of intake/carb used?

You can make 500hp all day long with a BBC and stock iron heads. This isn't doing Streetmaster any favors.

It's an improvement from the way it used to be. I remember when they were going back to 1967, that REALLY sucked! And that wasn't all that long ago either. I think they moved it up to 75 only several years ago. I had to have my 70 Formula tested over there. It's a racket for sure.

But it DOES confirm that HRG can be bought. They'll promote any product that provides enough cash up front.

Therefore, they're worse than a useless waste of time. They're got no ethics..

We still have the 1967 issue down here in Maricopa County, AZ (Phoenix). I have to take my (daily) 71 GTO thru emissions every year. Needless to say, it's a stock set up. My others I can play around with more as they live on classic insurance policies.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I'm up here in Prescott. Nothing here.......yet, lol

The stuff that matters I keep classic insurance on anyway but yeah, I know what you mean.
