Battery in trunk cable routing
According to another poster, the weight differential for a 70 GTO conv't is 2250 pounds front, 1630 rear.
Not good - almost 600 pounds I was looking to move the battery to the trunk but wanted to see what others had done in this regard first. I would like to mount the battery on the passenger side for best effect here. |

Did you make a decision on this?
Interesting topic. I was just thinking about this for my '69 convertible. I did put the battery in the trunk in my '55 Bel Air. The setup really works well. I am using a Ford style solenoid at the battery so the long wire to the starter is only hot during cranking. Here's a wiring diagram for my setup. The wire to the starter is 0 gauge. Ground wire is the same gauge and have the ground wire going to the disconnect switch and then to the frame beneath. For convenience, I installed a fuse hub in the engine compartment. I'm using a 4ga wire from the battery to the fuse hub with a 175A fuse. Here's the fuse hub. It's a Blue Sea Systems Safety Hub 150. I'm using no fusible links. All the car's systems are running from the fuse hub. The wire from the 80A fuse powers the car's fuse panel on the inside firewall. All my connections are crimped, soldered and covered with adhesive lined heat shrink tubing.

Oh and my interior guy fabricated a nice battery cover for me. I textured it and painted it to match the rest of my trunk:
And btw, the 2 auxiliary fuses you see above the battery power the trunk mounted power amp and the onboard air compressor.

I left the battery where is was. Lithium lightweight batterys are getting much cheaper.
