Default Seats are done & in!

Dan finally got the call that the re-upholstering of the seats is finally done! Yeah! It's interesting that 80% of the original solid vinyl portions of the seats was reused and all the fabric inserts are new (NOS from SMS). The new, supposedly NOS, black morrikide vinyl had a different grain pattern, so wasn't used, however, fortunately, the upholsterer had enough correct grain material on-hand to replace the worn driver seat bolsters. I'm sure that wasn't easy to deconstruct the original seat covers and 'rebuild' new covers with both old and new materials...but they did a nice job. So, it was worth the wait.

This news got Scott motivated to want to finish painting the front end! Sooo, the Catalina should be finished by this spring! Please ignore the wrong shifter handle as we'll keep looking for the correct one to install. This shifter handle works and doesn't interfere with the seat bench all the way forward, or the dash area, but is from an early A-body console car. If anyone knows the whereabouts of a handle, or complete set-up, please let me know (thanks!).

Probably a different supplier or later batch. I've seen it differ between same year cars built at different plants.

I know a guy with a few setups (you probably know him too). I'll ask him if he as one.

This makes the interior look done and the car should be soon! I'm excited to see it finished.

Thanks Ben! We'd appreciate that. I know Dan can't wait to get it done more than anybody...

What's the correct # on your shifter handle supposed to be? I have a bench seat shifter handle(not sure of the #, but I can check) sitting in the barn.

gtospieg - looks like the 1968 parts manual says p/n 9790770 for the handle for 1968 and the only one listed, so fit both buckets & bench seats, and with/without console.

1967 was different (p/n 9786898); 65/66 is p/n 9779484.

SD455DJ....I was referring to the four digit number on the lower part of the handle, I'll try to get the # off of mine.

gtospieg - I sent a PM to Peter Serio to see if he may know what it is. Unfortunately, the original shifter was replaced with a Hurst Competition Plus set up. Thanks for checking yours.

Peter Serio said the '67 shifter handle is #4179, but doesn't know the number for '68.

I did a little research and it may actually be for a Yenko Deuce. It may not work for you but I imagine someone would certainly want it.

Is there a resource for the factory 4-digit shifter handle codes and their applications?

I googled it but Pete Serio is the Guru as far as I know.

New repop floor mats laid down on the floors and the spare tire and jack installed now. Not too exciting, but at least a small step taken while we wait for paint.

Default Its been forever, is it done?

I've been following this build from the beginning. Beautiful machine.

Hasn't been much of an update in quite a while. (Can I get it cheap as an "incomplete project"?)

No? Didn't think so! Dying to see it complete!

Yes, it has been a while as we wait (im)patiently for the painting of the front sheet metal to happen...very frustrating to say the least.

Dennis,

Updates? Is she going to be ready for the Pure Stock Drags in September?

Tim, Hopefully it's back on the front burner at Scott's, but I haven't heard yet if that is indeed the case. If a miracle happens, it's possible it could be ready for the Pure Stock Drags, but we're not holding our breath. Dan's hoping to have it ready for MCACN in November at least (fingers crossed!).
