Default SCE copper head gasket

I pulled my cylinder head off to re-lap a intake valve in, when putting head back on I noticed that the head gasket had stretched. Wouldn’t go on the pins without bowing gasket.......what’s up with that?

My SCE gaskets did all kinds of stretching in its short life...I am basically having to completely rebuild my brand new engine now and will never use a copper gasket again no matter what.

I had a issue with a set of custom SCE copper gaskets.Made to use as a hybrid with reg pontiac heads on a 301 block. The fire ring was like 51 thou thick and the gasket was like 42.NFW that firering would compress enough to seal the gasket.$650 for the dyno,250 for the gaskets,no idea of the breakin oil etc,we ended up with a flood in the dyno room, water in the oil etc.Complete tear down.Sucked.Last time I use them.Tom

I used Hussey's copper gaskets and didn't have any stretching or bowing of the gasket, .055" thick gaskets with steel wire O rings, just 18 psi of boost though, up to 220f coolant temps at one point.
Yours are probably getting hotter than you think ,or unevenly heated/cooled.

We had a few minor issues with a set of Clark Copper. I have never used SCE. The Flattout rubber coated copper were great and stayed in shape and sealed very well for us.
