If you was following the thread in the 66-7 A body on jacks I posted a pic of about a dozen Pontiac jacks from 66-73.
Colors were blue, green, black,grey.
PMD had at least 4 suppliers of jacks in that era. Hence confusion on whats correct.Since that pic Ive found about half dozen more.(Im sure more are hiding somewhere)

Cammer, thanks for the info. I think in the end it is probably true that there were multiple suppliers at any given time. However, just for kicks I decided to chart the cars that I know about right now. I have 7 cars total (4 Norwood and 3 Van Nuys) to work with. I already see a pattern forming however really need a lot more data to establish something to hang your hat on. See below:

______________Build___Jack_____Jack
_____Car______Date___Date_____Style
Norwood:
1970 Firebird____7C____0G____Trapazoid
1971 Firebird____9B____0H_______Y
1971 TA________1A____0G_______Y
1971 TA________4A____1C_______Y

Van Nuys:
1970 Formula____7?____n/a_____Hinged
1970 Espirit_____??____n/a_____Hinged
1971 Formula____2C____n/a_____Hinged

Looking for more cars to add to see if these patterns hold. Anyone have any data to add?

Does anyone have a spare one of the little rubber protective bumper that sit go on the end of the area that mates up with the bumper? You can see what I'm referring to in this photo, just under the tab and next to the tape measure.

Actually, I was also wondering if there was a source for those.

Sure enough. Thanks! Always looking for more data, especially on the Van Nuys cars.

How this for the final result on color matching for jack paint: After doing the usual search of the unsual places (every autoparts store in a 20 mile radius) I found the exact color for the 70 and up GM jack bases and jack mechanisms: judge for yourself:

It's Duplicolor DE 1609 Chevrolet Blue Engine Enamel.

Now for the next question: what does the correct 1972 jack handle look like and is there a plastic jack sleeve used on the y-type masted jacks?

njsteve,

Paint match looks great!!

Look at the jack in the trunk of the car in the Ebay auction Giles posted above. It is a Y style jack. It has the rubber sleeve and you can see the jack handle. The sleeve is still available from GM.

Very cheap this time: $6 (current price as of last Friday night!) buy a can before OEM Paints buys them all out and raises the price to $39.95.

The photos that Scott455HO and Giles posted of the Y-type jacks look like the mechanism is a darker blue, like Ford engine blue. So should the mechanism be Ford blue and the base Chebby engine blue?

Den,

On all of the early jacks (pre '73) I have seen, the base and mechanism are the same color. I think there were different shades of blue depending on the jack style (supplier) and possibly when the jack was made.

Can someone take some measurements and post some photos of the correct lug wrench for the 1971/2/3 cars? I have a few random lug wrenches in my garage with different bend angles and lengths and would like to see if any of them are the correct one for my 72. Thank you.

I have a late 1972 dated 2M jack with black head and base for sale on ebay in case anyone needs on. Here's the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970-...QQcmdZViewItem

Question f-body bumper jack confusion

Ok, another question. What EXACTLY is stamped on the "Y" jack base? Also how many "holes" are at each end of the base and are they circular or slotted -or- a combination of both (kinda of like what a package hanging on a shelf in a store has)
