Default 1968, 1969 GTO Radiator Support + Wheel Wells by The Parts Place, Pics Info Inside

Hey everyone, so I didn't see a lot of info on high quality, no modification needed OEM replica parts concerning these items. I'm deep into a partial restore and I figured I'd pass on some info and pics.

FWTW...I tried a bunch of known GTO vendors but everyone was out of these parts. I might've lucked out finding this company as they're in my state, everything was quality, in stock, great price, fast shipping and no mods needed.

Custom Classics restoration in Island Lake Illinois thought these were quality parts and this is what they do everyday. The Parts Place rep was great and even though he said they've never had any issues with the parts below, he was correct in the end.

There are a couple of deep threads here on the mods needed to make the core support work. You saying that the one you bought needed nothing?

The radiator support piece shown in the photo appears to be the same "wrong" one sold elsewhere ... it obviously has the lip on top that needs to be removed for 68s, I'm guessing it has the other oddities too.

Perhaps other vendors are out of the core supports because they are waiting for newly tooled correct examples to be manufactured ... that would be something to see.

It might need trimming at the radiator for factory like radiators. I use an aftermarket radiator with a custom hold down bracket but so far nothing was needed to adapt it to fit, appears to have the 9 degree angle and fits pretty tight.

I did notice the top bolt holes for the fenders are close but not perfect right now, maybe when the engines in it'll level off a little from the weight.

I guess my point is, I've heard crazy stories about the Dynacorn etc that needed major modifications, this so far hasn't needed any. I'll post back again when it's together and running.

That's good news, if it has any tilt to it at all it's something different than they have been selling for years, maybe new tooling is being used now.

They are 69 units.
Guys had been modifying 69's to go into 70 for ages (somewhat minor mods)
So branding them as 69-70 is about as far as the truth can be stretched.

68 is quite a stretch

71-72 (gto) is a bionic stretch
But if you have enough left of a correct original, you can graft one , from the two.
It is the only alternative that will likely ever be offered. (new repop)

Faint descriptions will put buyers over the barrel on parts with high shipping costs.
2-way shipping means you come out about even just keeping it , versus returning.
Helluva way to do business

Good Idea and could be helpful to others.
69 and 70 users aren't having much difficulty with these supports at all - afaik

Update

My bigger radiator that fit the factory support (had to chop the corner lip off) needs this support lip to be bent UP about a 1/2 or more. Luckily my Rad has a nice bracket that will cover any possible paint being chipped from being bent but it WILL need a tweak UP.

It appears as if it's angled a little down on the top support vs the factory.

This might be only for us modded GTO guys who aren't too worried about factory perfect but at like $200 its a good deal IMO.

I'll report back when it's in but that was today's custom mod needed, report from the shop.

I like that you have that body color. I was going to leave mine black, but I think I'll paint it now seeing yours. Is that Aleutian blue?
