Thanks. It's interesting... and puzzling. Hard to believe a lakester engine could live without a cooling system. (Sidenote- if someone is building a nostalgia dragster, I might part with my pair of those Thompson water necks). Not sure what I'm seeing in the pictures- the blower (4-71?) appears to be mounted directly to the head- no intake manifold? What is the engine- an Olds?

This engine was posted in epic craigslist thread in the lobby for $5000. I contacted the owner after it sold for $1000, that is what he told me. If who ever has it can get numbers off the single port hilborn and trace it to original purchaser? Maybe trace it to Mickey Thompson??

I've never seen an early Pontiac head like that- unless I've forgotten what 55/56 heads look like.

Pretty sure you would know what a 55/56 head looks like. But if its a M/T piece, it could be a 1 off. Didnt he have a lot of 1 off heads?

Thanks for posting the additional pictures. This is very interesting for sure. The bottom end and block mods screams M/T but a 177 head just doesn't make sense?

In the picture labeled

"61 mt 4 blower.jpg (59.5 KB, 25 views)"

It looks like the BabyWhale might have been re-purposed for drag racing.
Different rear wheels and tires with long studs , from the original Lake picture.
May be why it has the fill cup water necks on the head ... or idunno

If they were running it as air-cooled , could be why it has had a head swap (177) in the past. maybe several head swaps in its past

Don't know half of what i'm looking at in the pics either, but the 4 bolt block is cool .
The lower windows in the block are over my head
Noted the magneto too

It sold fast, i think the 1k figure was to make later callers feel like they missed out.
But i doubt it brought the full 5k

Real interesting stuff would be intriguing to hear the whole A-Z story about the whole ball of wax.

I would say with the style of transmission that came with it, it may have been in a rail dragster or something later on

The “windows” in the lower block appear to be clearance for the rods. Looks like plates would bolt on the outside. Big stroke?
