Scott,if they could do a 9.2 alu block im in.At 9.2 all the 303 RA V stuff will fit along with parts like 301 valley cover. They have made the "shorter" deck blocks before.I know Ric Johnson and Tom Vaught have them.Tom

My deck height on MY Short Deck IA Cast iron block is 9.5" Tom.

It is NOT a 9.2" short deck block.

Tom! I said you have one of the "shorter"deck, never said you had a 9.2.And as far as I know no one except the factory has built a true pontiac short deck!A 9.5 does me NO good for all my short deck stuff!Tom

I UNDERSTAND THAT PERFECTLY, TOM

The questions in my mind are: If all the rest of the blocks cast up and rough machined are 9.5 deck, then for you to have a 9.2 deck block you would cut an additional .300 off the deck so then what would the actual deck thickness be for YOUR block (or others if they decided to go to the 9.2: deck dimension) be????????

If the deck was 1.00" thick then you could still have a .700" deck with your street car 9.2" IA-2 Block for good gasket sealing/etc. My opinion, a .500" deck is not going to cut it for a block used in any performance application.

Tom,I'm told the issue is the oil filter. The factory blocks did not use the filter bracket that all other blocks use.The 301s and 303s were unique where the filter screws onto the side of the block. As I said,I'm out if a 9.2 can't be worked in.Tom

Did you not read the OP's post? He asked about 9.5" iron blocks, and AP are having trouble finding just 6 customers, what on Earth makes you think they can just knock up one ali 9.2" block?

Had to laugh!
"all the 303 RA V stuff will fit" I'll call Summit right away to see what's available.

Scott,I understand, even if the deck was thick enough to safely cut a xtra 300, I think it get down into that oil filter bracket location.I would take a iron if it worked, good luck with the effort.Tom

Are you trying of use all original RAV parts? If not, other than having to have intake manifold spacers made and a custom length distributor. What else needs to be modified to use a 9.5" deck block?

SOMETHING STICKS IN MY MIND THAT IT WAS A 9.5" DECK HEIGHT BLOCK.

And yes the Pickett engine was a bad boy engine.

Tom V.

I have a few extra Kellogg/ Moldex RAW Forgings if someone wanted to do a very strong forged crankshaft (billet cranks do have a grain structure direction that makes them stronger in one plane vs in the other plane).
Forged steel does not have that problem. 7 others over the years have purchased and had Joe grind short stroke
cranks for them over the years.

Joe at Moldex would finish the cranks to your stroke length. 3.5" is the top stroke. Next crank I have done will be a 3.375" stroke crank, like the 366 cid Pontiac engines had.
