Mecum Dallas values
Has anyone looked at the Pontiac sell/bid prices at the Mecum Dallas auction? Some good deals and some prices that really surprised me.
67/68 Firebird that was In rough shape sold for 32k Resto mod 78 TA bid to 55k and didn’t meet reserve 70 GTO convertible in driver condition sold for 41k 71 LeMans in very nice condition sold for 42k 77 SE TA bid to 50k and didn’t sell. High end GTO’s (Ram Air/Judge) seemed not to bid up as much as the 30-40k cars You can go on their site and see what everything bid to/sold for |

Been watching mecum for years
Yes prices are unpredictable, but maybe a more realistic compared to the likes of BJ. I follow the full size cars and note 2 , 2+2's at Dallas The best deals I notice have been at Kissimmee John L Sent from my SM-T585 using Tapatalk

Kind of like going to a bar and waking up in the morning next to an ugly woman. You may have done it but you regret it.

Custom 67 Bird - Sold $104,500 https://www.mecum.com/lots/DA0919-38...tiac-firebird/ 66 GTO Hardtop - Sold $55K https://www.mecum.com/lots/DA0919-39...6-pontiac-gto/ 69 Judge Vert (NOM)- Sold $121,000 https://www.mecum.com/lots/DA0919-38...e-convertible/ Looks like the custom cars did well! Never seen a 71 Lemans hardtop go for $42K but it did have a lot of work put in it. If it started out as a $5K, bench seat Lemans, someone did very well!

Say what you want. I've been at Mecum. As the OP said, some cars go for astronomical prices and some are bargains. I know people who go to car auctions who decide they're buying a certain car before the bidding starts. That's every buyer's dream, but it happens.
Don't you think it's time to accept the fact that these auctions are real? The amount paid by the winner of auctions for our Pontiacs gives us some idea of the value of those we already own. If we decide to sell, higher prices are a boon to us. I don't understand the animosity of some on this board who look at Mecum and Barrett-Jackson as an enemy of our hobby.

LOL! I used to go to them until all the "look at me" fools and circus turned it into a joke and social event. Drew Alcazar told me once that he loves the cameras. He said "You get a guy s hit faced and put a camera in his face, he will not go home looking like a loser". He went on to say, "That my friend means I go home a happy man because an inebriated person doesn't know when to quit".
That is why there is free alcohol at casinos and collector car auctions. I also know Mecum has the most shill bidders. Last edited by Chief of the 60's; 09-09-2019 at 05:36 PM. |

I've been to Mecum auctions also, including the big one in Kissimmee. In order to get free alcohol you have to be a 'Gold Bidder', that's $500 up front. Gets you some other benefits too, like up front seating and their onsite lounge and upscale restaurant. No free alcohol for the $200 bidder.
Also, it's printed right up front in your consignment agreement that they may bid your car up to the reserve amount. (No need for shill bidders) If you'll notice a lot of cars get bid up in even amounts; 20k, 30k, 50k etc. then they beg for the next bid. And a lot of cars sell for that one bidder's only bid. If you are a buyer you simply know up front how much you are willing to pay and stick to it.

Mecum is the biggest screw with a smile. I know this first hand and lets leave it at that. Probably the best is Russo and Steele. Good people, treat you well and you don't have to look over your shoulder.

Well, like it or not, people are paying it. At this point it’s hard to argue against them. Even if there are fake bidders the car is still worth the selling price to at least one person.
On a side not- some of the modified cars are a huge value. That custom 67 Firebird had a insane level of detail in the build. It would be hard to replicate. The 78 TA resto mod had at least 25k in aftermarket parts on it- yet had loose ends that needed finishing. Looked like someone ran out of money or enthusiasm. My friend sold his gold and white 70 Charger RT there. Sold for 84k. Wanted a little more but was content with it. I agree there are probably fake bidders on the higher end cars but I don’t really see it in the range I look at. |

They had a real nice looking 70 GTO RamAir IV 4spd , Burgundy with Black interior.
? with factory AC ? Said it had PHS and Buildsheet - 1 of 627 , so evidently it was a real Ram IV car. Went for $42,350 Maybe it didn't have an IV engine anymore ? Anyone know the car's story ? Was from a "doubletrouble" collection |
