Dusty was so Awesome on the Bass , and as a show-man.
He was always a bit on the tubby side in the days - but he could scoot just fine. Would rank him in the top tier of all-time bass players. In a 3-man band you can't be lazy or play passive ZZ Top was my Very First concert experience @ 13 in summer of 1977. The "Tejas" album tour Best bargain i ever got for $6 Skynyrd was my second concert = $7 Zeppelin was my third concert = $9 i got lucky on the Big 3 Trifecta RiP Mr.DustyHill thanks for the music !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I really don't think any other band could have done a song about TV Dinners and made it a hit. ZZ Top was BadAzz "Twenty year old turkey in a thirty year old tin I can't wait until tomorrow and thaw one out again, oh yeah" and - they gave us a shout out in the song "Bad Girl" I know a girl with a GTO She's the one that can "go, cat, go!" She's a bad girl, she's a bad girl See the girl that's dressed in green? She's the one that's a mean machine She's a bad girl, she's a bad girl |

Sad to lose another influence on my life.
I went to high school in Midland TX and remember my first indoor concert being ZZ Top... must have been early 1972 in Odessa... "Down Brownie" sticks in my mind for some reason. I think they were backing up another band but I have no memory of the headliner.... they were obviously outclassed. Tres Hombres is still high on my list. Living around the oil fields surrounded by nothing I never saw it, but believed the story of rolling down the highway in a welded steel cage just for kicks (Master of Sparks). |
