Default Added car to collection

I just added a 70 z28 to my collection. It was my brothers who died 36 years ago. My father restored it over the years. He just turned 80 and signed the title over to me.
It is an original z28 Dayton yellow, 4speed (which is now a 5 speed). Original engine is long gone. It now has a 396. I have to decide if I want to put a small block in it and make it more original.
I have to try and get the original gauges working.

Nice! Of all the Camaros I like the 70 body style best.

EXTREMELY Cool that it belonged to your Brother and your Father, and now You.
If your brother had it all that way - i wouldn't change anything.

If you do the engine, then you gotta do the wheels hood and rear spoiler to get it flush with originality.
It looks good where it sits now.
Congrats !!

Be nice to see a stock z-28 hood and that msd box gone, but thats my opinion. Very nice car, and 5 speed means some cruising too, if Not a Doug Nash?

Very nice. I love nicely done day 2 types of cars. That the changes were made by family members makes it even cooler. So if it were mine, I'd get everything working, and keep it as is.

Thumbs up

Nice acquisition, an iconic performance car.

If it were mine I’d do everything I could to make it as original as possible.

It’s yours now, do it up your way.

Very VERY nice!

I love 1st gens, and 70-73 second gen Camaros. I've owned a bunch and they're great cars. The history behind yours makes it 100x cooler than just another restored car!

It looks to be in great condition, a time capsule of the mid/late 70's day 2 cars. Probably 75% of the guys I ran around in high school with had cars that looked allot like that beauty. Of course not in that great of condition. But the MSD on the firewall, the wheel style, the Lakewood traction bars, the taller hood, switch to a big block engine, all so familiar. As far as what to do, if the car runs and drives good as it is, I would probably tend to leave it mostly like it is. With the original engine gone, do what makes you happiest. Drive it and enjoy it!

Nice ride you have!

Nice car, and cool story. I'd get those original gauges working and drive it as-is, and every time I broke the tires loose I'd think of my brother.

Personal ties to a car make keepers.

My wife's first car was a '71 Camaro (circa 1977). Back in 2000, for her birthday, we bought her a '72 Camaro (we were looking for a '70 - 73, as the body and trim are nearly identical for the first 4 years of the 2nd gen).

It was a one owner car owned by a 76 year old widow. When we got it back home, I found the build sheet and learned that the car was built within 2 weeks of our first date and the block was cast on Valentine's Day. It was Placer Gold from the factory with a black vinyl top, off white interior, console, 3 spd manual on the floor and a 350 2bbl.

It now has the original 350 rebuilt, with a Holley dual plane intake, Edelbrock 600 cfm 4bbl, 4 spd manual, 1.25" front bar and .875" rear bar, Dakota Digital dash, shaved door handles, '81 Z28 fender louvers, cowl induction hood, '95 Camaro gray buckets with the interior panels dyed to match, 17" Billet Specialties rims and sports a PPG Radiance 2 Romanesque Crimson Pearl paint job with shadowed in checkered flag graphics.

It's been her car for 21 years. And it ain't going moving on to a new owner any time soon....

Enjoy your new car!

I like it and it is a winner modded or stock. I put 70-73 Camaro's in the same regard as 70-73 birds for a pure original design. I particularly like the Camaro tail light / bumper design. I like the full bumper front like you have also.

Those Camaros were sweet lookers. Only thing that I really don't like about them is the dash design.

It has a TKO 600 in it. The .68 overdrive helps with the original 4.10 gear. Found out it is a 427 not 396. Going to leave the big block in it. Need the cowl hood for the big block.
Looking at putting Dakota Gauge cluster in it.
