How to measure rear height on 74 TA
My 74 sits a little low on the rear.was wondering if its stock height or its sagging.do i change my leafs? I would like it a little higher.thanks.

The car sit's perfecked in my opinion but a taller tire would do what your
wanting it to do. Then you would have two size tire's though. GT. |

If you have a factory shop manual, the procedure for measuring ride height should be in there someplace. I don't know F bodies, but in general it's typically some dimension between part of the suspension and the frame.

There already appears to be plenty of air space between the top of the tires and the fender lip. Not sure why you'd want more.
Taller tires would raise the rear and fill the air gap. |

Our 80 TA was bottoming out whenever we took passengers or had luggage on a trip so I bought Delco air shocks from Rock Auto to stiffen the ride when loaded. It did sit higher when unloaded so just let out some pressure to return it to original height. To go back to original just swap back to original shocks. I hope my 74 TA sits as nice as yours when finished.

without knowing the size tires, i say that looks very close to stock & has a great stance. whatever you do dont jack up teh rear with aftermarket "5leaf" springs or air shocks! air shocks will make the rear ride much worse than stock type shocks... i had them back in the early 90's on a 2nd gen & the ride was terrible compared to even cheap monroe shocks.
if you want more height as others mentioned, get a taller/wider tire. stock size for 78-81 firebirds was 225/70/15 thats ~ 27.5" tall, a 255/60 is close to that height but wider than stock size & will fit a 15x7 rally 2 rim. some even go to the 275/60 thats closer to 28" tall but much wider, they will fit & work on a 15x7 but will have a little bit of a rounded sidewall. but again, i think it sits nice as is. the manual has you measure the height from the rear rocker area to the ground, id have to check for the spec but im sure others can post it. the easier unofficial way to measure front or rear height is at the center of the wheel using the center cap then go from the ground to the bottom of the fender lip, quick easy way to know what changes were made with springs or tires. i have a stock suspension 81 t/a or a 1.5" lowered 72 firebird i can get you a measurement to compare to yours if you want. |

Like mentioned, need to know tire heights for accurate results.
Assuming all tires are the same height, then having the car slightly lower in the back is correct and how GM designed them originally. This is to induce proper rocker drainage. Usually the difference is only about a 1/2" Proper measurements are generally taken just in front of the rear tire from the bottom of the rocker near the pinch weld for the back. The front is done just behind the front tire on the rocker near the pinch weld, not the bottom of the fender. Each model car has it's own range of measurements that are considered "correct" ride height. |

that looks about perfect in my opinion.. any higher it will have that 70's/80's overly jacked up look! LOL! google some images of 2nd gen t/a's, most sit like that or a tad lower.

These cars were a little high in the front,maybe thats what make them look low in the back

Measure from center of the wheel to fender lip to compare front and back.
