Default Anyone know a reliable ignition coil for breaker points?

I'm looking for a stock looking coil. I'll be using it in one of my SDs. Seems all is china made.

If you do not have a show car just about anyone will be 100% reliable if you mount it on the firewall where there’s little vibration and little heat conduction which is what kills them over time.

If not then Franks Pontiac parts has original used Delco coils so screw thinking about aftermarket ones, especially China made ones!

If your stuck with mounting it on the engine then find some thin non cork gasket material and make a heat insulator for the coil bracket.

I get 'em at the Treasure Yard. Dirt cheap--if you can find 'em.

Best I can tell, the contact with a metal bracket would REMOVE heat from the coil. It'd have to be damned hot under the hood for the bracket to put heat into the coil.

MSD 8222 has only 0.8 ohms primary resistance. You'd have to add more ballast resistor or you'll cook the points.

MSD 8252 is even worse--0.2 ohms.

Manufacturers were mounting oil-filled "canister" coils on the engine since the Dark Ages. I don't know why vibration is suddenly a problem--except that the Fookin' Communists just make crappy products.

On the points cars I use the Accel 8140 and just paint it black. Looks stock.

I've had one on the Firebird for 25 years, still works fine.

I've also used the MSD 8203 on other cars with points that also works fine. Again, paint it black.

O'Reilly's Auto Parts, Master Pro, 2-5195. Chinese coil, but it is of excellent quality.

Or pick up a NOS GM coil all over ebay

Very true!!! I still have my original 410 coil on my 69 GTO. Works great and looks as good on the scope too. Still mounted in its stock position...

Thanks for all the responses. I have about 5 old GM coils but with my old old analog meter show infinite resistance. Today I'm getting new Fluke meter and trying echlin coil. I just try to avoid chinese stuff but 2 parts guys said almost impossible.
