Emissions Decal Codes - Ram Air V ?
Hello,
Does anyone have an understanding of the 2-letter codes on the emission decals? Looking at the various reproduction decals, I see several different codes: 1970 RAM Air IV - PE 1970 Standard 4 bbl engine - PB 1971 455 HO - PN 1970 Firebird 400-4bbl - PC Etc.... Does anyone happen to know if a code was ever assigned to the RAV ?

Because the RA V was a crate engine and not factory installed, there is no emissions decal.

I understand that, but there is quite a bit of documentation that was created when they were gearing up for production. I'm wondering if that 2-digit code was created prior for some other purpose and might exist?

So if RA V was offered, say, in both stick and automatic, there would be at least two part numbers and therefore two codes at a minimum (had they been created). K

Kenth, looking at a bunch of buildsheets, it looks like they probably added a code which moved the letters down?
Looks like after the beginning of the year or even around when my assembly book was dated (Feb 1970) it shows PC for 400 4 bbl. I have some with RA IV which took a different code also, having PE after Jan 1970 and PD before then. I'm not sure if I have any Craftsman Service News on this change, but then I never looked for it.

Early 1970 Pontiac had...
PA 8 cyl 2 bbl PB 8 cyl 4 bbl PC 455 PD RA IV Later 1970 Pontiac had... PA 350 2 bbl PB 400 2 bbl PC 400 4 bbl PD 455 4 bbl PE 400 RA IV & SD Now, if SD meant RA V, then PE was the decal.

Thank you all for the responses - I wasn't getting notifications and had no idea there was this much discussion. This is what I needed.
