While we are on this subject, does anyone have a nice center horn button for a Tempest standard wheel (without the horn ring)? I am looking for one, I have a 63 Tempest but willing to accept a 61 or 62 even if different.

Are these standard/deluxe wheels cast in color or painted?

Here is a '62 standard wheel I picked up. Needs paint. Has a slight hairline crack that would need to be filled. Also have a NOS one I will post.

Deluxe & Custom are cast with colored plastic not painted. I don't know about the standard ones.

Those wheels that Tom and Keith have are absolutely georgeous.... nicer than the originals I think. I ordered a new '63 Tempest in August of '62, a Black Black large window coupe with a deluxe red sparkle upholstery and a custom red steering wheel and boy was I disappointed when the car arrived and I saw the steering wheel. I was expecting the clear to be the crystal clear like the '61 fullsize but for whatever reason they had changed the manufacturer or the process or something and the clear part of the custom wheel had a reddish/orange tint that looked like some of the color from the solid part had tinted the clear part. Major disappointment! but it really was a nice wheel and I lived with it till the day I threw it away in perfect condition!!!! (pause whilst I kick myself) Banshee's comment and looking at Keith's Red custom wheel has me counting my pennies and thinking about my upcoming birthday.

Early Corvair wheel looks the same as Tempest standard wheel. I got one with no cracks in a wrecking yard for $13.

Here is my NOS '62 wheel. This must be what the wheels looked like when our cars were new....minus a couple chips here and there.

All my other wheels that have been in cars have lost their shine compared to this one.

61-62 have very little shine comparered to 63.WAY diff material.Seems like 61-62 have more of a rubber feel and 63 have more of a plastic feel.JMO,Tom

Yes, it fits. Looks exactly like the '62 Tempest standard wheel. Does not have a horn ring. Just came with a horn button. I need a Tempest standard horn button to put on this wheel if anyone has one. I will try to post a picture of the Corvair wheel in the next day or 2.

Someone asked before about the '63 FS compared to the '63 T4. Here's a '63 FS wheel off a Cat with tri-fawn interior and auto column.

Default '63 Standard wheel

I just got a car with a standard wheel on it and it surprised me. I thought the '63 standard was the same as the '61-'62 because that's what they show in the parts book (but I guess they just didn't update the picture in '63).

Here's some pictures.

it's actually a deluxe wheel without the four chrome bands and without a horn ring.

I think that button is different from the '61-'62 standard too. So I'm thinking it's a one-year one steering wheel horn button!?

Hmm. If that is a '63 standard wheel I don't think I care for it enough to put it on a barebones NSS car. The '61/2 standard wheels I like.

I beleive the only diff between standard and deluxe is the horn ring. No? You can find the horn rings on Ebay. I have a 62 wheel and the 63 standard wheel horn button fits it.

Can someone post a pic of a '62 tempest standard wheel?

How do you tell the difference between a '62 Catalina wheel and Tempest? They look the exact same to me.

That is what mine ('63) looks like (pic below). I had thought that it was standard. Learn something new every day!

On a related note... does anyone know of a good vinyl/rubber dye to match this "fawn" color and that I can use to freshen-up this wheel?

That is a '63 deluxe wheel with a standard wheel horn button, but I wouldn't rule out a deluxe wheel being matched with a standard horn button just because they ran out of standard wheels for the car as it rolled down the line. Only difference in the wheels is 4 chrome rings.

Fix the cracks with epoxy and paint to match.

To all, I'm wanting a 61/62 NOS standard horn button and what ever standard wheel hardware I can find that works.

Trying to take my steering wheel off today. Are these screws and ring a stock set up? Never seen screws like this before. Any ideas?
