Default 2018 Pontiac Powered Bracket Racing

Would like to know of all the members here who will be competing with a Pontiac powered vehicle, in any type of bracket or local track index class.

Please post some details of your car, along with pics, the class & track/tracks you plan to run, and aprox ET.

Would also like to see info posted here, every time a Pontiac powered car wins part of the purse at a bracket race during the '18 season.

There are now lots of big bucks bracket races around the country. Here's one I saw on a Pontiac racer's FB page.

I'll be running my 67 Firebird as usual every weekend the track is open and I'm not broke.
It was a tough expensive year last year. I managed to break almost everything front to back throughout the year. I'll hopefully get my 529" IA2 back together for the start of the season. Get my good converter fixed and get the car back in the 5.80's. At my home track (Central IL Dragway) the plan is to run Top/Spro and everywhere else I'll be running Mod/No-box.

" I'll be running my 67 Firebird as usual every weekend the track is open and I'm not broke..."

Yeah, that reminds me how low budget my cars were. The majority of our wins came, running mid to high 12's. But we won almost as many running 13's.

By today's standards, those times are extremely slow. But, back then, most of the better cars, at the tracks we ran, were only running mid to high 11's. So, 12's were not considered that slow. If fact, 12.99 was the min ET for Super Pro, at some tracks. Time was the only thing that separated the classes, at the tracks we ran. There were no such classes as Box & No-Box. As far as I know everybody was footbrakin. And I'd never heard of a delay box. Don't know when they became popular.

Anyhow, for you guys who have slower cars, don't be afraid to post your info on this thread. I can definitely relate to slow, low budget cars. In fact, having been the slower car MOST of the time, I almost always root for the slow car, in any race. One exception would be if the quicker car was Pontiac powered & the slow car was another brand, especially a Chevy.

I hope to get my Safari "Woody" wagon together in time to make a pass or 2 in it in 2018. Already got a 455/TH400/converter. So, it should be doable. I assume it will run somewhere in the high 8's, without straining anything. But then I never ran anything that heavy. Might run in the 9 sec zone, unless I drop the rear gear some. Really don't matter tho. It'll still be in what they call No-E, at our local 1/8 mile track.

S/Pro, Q16, T/S, Nostalgia A and B/Gas......the last one is a Pro tree thing. I'll only make it out between 4 or 5 times.......got that Family thing to do.
I've been to Mid-Michigan and done some high dollar Bracket Racing but its been a while since I've been there! The BIG Bracket race I race in every year is at Norwalk their 10 Grand Nationals its $125 to enter and $10,000 to win ALL 3 days and they pay back a long ways! They'll get over 500 cars to over 600 cars thats a lot of rounds!!! You better bring your "A" game at that race!

I`m hoping to get a full season in at my local track, Santa Pod, this year. I`ll be running in PRO-ET which is 9.00 to 11.99.

track is being dug up and replaced with concrete over the winter for the full 1/4 mile. not sure how much difference that will make to me running 11.00-11.10 @ 123

my converter isn`t matched to the new engine but the car is very consistent even if the performance is about 3/10ths off.

Good luck guys ! And be sure to let us know when you take home some of the purse. Even if you only get quarter final round money, that beats what most of the cars in your bracket won. So, let us here about it.

We always preferred a final round appearance, obviously. But hey, whatever you win puts your name on the payout list & helps pay entry fee & expenses.

We'll be bracket racing in the Twin Cities area again this year. Details in the signature. We run Pro, Super Pro and Quick 16. My wife runs a Dodge Hellcat and our daughter runs her 68 Firebird. Right now we're waiting on snow so we can get some snowmobiling in before Spring.

Thanks for the info ! Good luck to you all !

Since my wife started racing with a '68 Bird & drove several of 'em, I'd love to see some pics of the '68 Bird, if you don't mind sharing.

Will try to fit in as much weekly bracket racing as possible for 2018. Didn't get out as much last year as I wanted to but sometimes you'll have a year like that and it just gets you more pumped for the upcoming season!

I'll be running the GTO in my signature starting with Pontiac Heaven in Feb.
Then C/GAS at the March meet 2 weeks later and as many NHRA Heritage events
as time will allow.
Also planning on running the Spring Fling race here in Vegas in April with the
GTO and my street 69 Firebird. I'll see what comes up after that.

Good call Aaron! LOL fun to watch for sure,my wife STILL talks about that and how crazy those guys are........I'm sure Donnie isn't skeert to do that. LOL!

As far as bracket racing....
Got my old Firebird going 400 12heads old school warrior racing solid cam 1.65 rockers low 12 second car....bottom bulb racing trying to get back to having fun at the track.

Dad's......70GTO maybe we'll have a 535 back together for him...he will be 73 this year so him racing every weekend he wants is at the top of my priority list....see if we can improve on dad's 8 final rounds last year and 4wins

Been talking a huge amount of smack to my sis so she will get back to the track with her 68 GTO ....she was once a very salty bottom bulb racer and has won a ton of races ....she's been busy collecting championship softball rings playing ball to race.....now lol sis is getting up there in age maybe she will start racing the car she's had since she was 15yrs old.
She once told me shed ALMOST trade her 2 final 4 basketball rings for 1 final round against me or dad ..... We almost had that chance back in '03 but I couldn't seal the deal in a semi final..

Jason - Great to see you spending time with your Dad at the track. I'm very jealous. Hope to see your Sister getting out there too!

Default 2018 Bracket Racing

I will be going to Vegas for the Spring Fling Million in April. Then to Galot for the 2nd Spring Fling event. I will race local points at Richmond Dragway as well.
Fall will bring the Fall Fling at Bristol then I will be at The Million in Montgomery Alabama in October.
I will probably race the Firebird and GTO at Bristol and Galot but will take just one car to both Million races.
The Firebird still has the same 525 aluminum engine for the last 3 seasons but the GTO has one in it now too. I have 600 passes on the one in the Bird so I will freshen it up in January.

For those in the deep South, there's a race in Belle Rose, LA, at No Problem Raceway, this week.

I will be running 10.0 index again this year. I fell in love with index racing. I am pretty sure I have the only Pontiac powered Pontiac in my class.
I am also going to run the 72 that runs 12.0's in some foot brake classes.

I need more time slips like this one.
