Default 2001 LS 5.7 , street cam choice.

Need help for my son choosing a Cam?
60k on engine, headers,air intake,high flow cats,complete exhaust.
3.42 gear I think. Auto trans,stock converter.
I've heard 50hp from the Cam?
Need mid range power, not top end.
Would like .600 lift or less.
Don't want to change valve springs every 25k miles.
Local shop is advising too big of cam for him in my opinion, mid .600 lift, 230s dur @.050?
He thinks bigger is Better?
I know he will like mid in a daily driver street car better than Top!
Help?

Best so far 1/8 et,8.90 on street tires,
Since that I have added 400 heads.
I call it a rat sleeper.

230's and a stock converter will give you a crappy running car. I've also provided cams to 6.0/6.2 guys in the low 230's and are pushing close to 500hp at the wheels - of course those are running excellent heads, headers, low restriction exhaust, and WELL tuned.

Most of the LS cams I've designed/proved to people have had at least a 30 degree int/exh duration split, usually a smaller intake than what people expect, and they make killer midrange. I provided a 227/259 on a 113 for a mild LS2 Corvette recently, and the guy tells me how much he loves it every time we talk.

For what you've said, especially the stock converter, I'd back of a bit from that design. I've never designed one that mild, or else I'd share specs with you :-)
