The common whiskey's are not worth all that much especially when they are open. I have an unopened bottle of The Glenlivit 12 year from 1981 and it's only worth about $100.

American Bourbon specifically is what is very popular now and what has the higher values.

Very cool! I have not done any collecting of Canadian Whiskey's. However, from my limited research on Canadian whiskey and this one in particular, they made it for about 6 or 7 years in the 60's. It's not 'age stated' which is a turn off to most collectors. Meaning it could be an average 4-6 year aged whiskey just put in a fancy bottle. Once in the bottle, no additional aging of flavor takes place.

I found this auction that kind of confirmed my thoughts.

https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item...5-quart-sealed

That being said, If there is any items that Max, Pypes or Cold Case makes that would be of interest, I would offer $350 credit for that box of 2 just because it would pretty much start my vintage collection. To this point, everything I have is from the 90's-current.

Also very cool!

Originally I thought it was one box with 2 units in it. Now I see they are 2 separate boxes. I would definitely keep one since it was your Dad's. I'd also be happy with just one. Keep in mind that I have no intention of opening one this old. I'd just put it on the shelf for the historical cool factor. I would tag it with your Dad's name and how he, you and then I obtained it.

It's out there if you are persistent. You just have to dig. I just brought home a bottle from OR that was $59. Other states like VA and OH regulate pricing and when you find it, it's around $60.

Then in free market states, you find it at chains occasionally because they don't gouge the customer. They leave the pricing at retail because they know they will lose a lot of other business by marking up over retail. ie; Costco, Walgreens and many supermarket chains.

If anyone has a bottle of Red Crown Royal XR, I’ll trade straight up for a bottle of Blue XR.

It's been out for a couple years now. It's getting some good reviews and appears to be doing well. Now Peyton Manning has to figure out how to get some respect with his whiskey as it so far is tanking! lol

I'll pay cash or I have been known to get my hands on an occasional Pontiac part that I would trade very fairly with.
Recently aquired these old bottles of Jack Daniels from an older gentleman who said he was a liquor sales rep back in the day. He said one is unopened and the other his teen son opened and tried some then severely punished, what can you tell me about them.

These are commemorative bottles that were made from around 1971 to 1998 by Jack Daniels. They made a couple different bottle designs each year throughout those years. It's basically the same exact whiskey that is in the traditional #7 bottles but they bottled a lot of those at a slightly higher proof of 90. Your first one is the Lincoln decanter from 1979 and the 2nd one appears to be the 'tribute to Tennessee' bottle from 1982.

A little interesting info about this period of time for whiskey distillers: Brown liquor (whiskey) became incredibly unpopular in the mid seventies and brands like Jim Beam and Jack Daniels started to have an incredible abundance of aged whiskey with not buyers. So they ingeniously came up with the idea of bottling their whiskey in decanters and sell them as limited edition gift ideas. The idea worked fantastically! Thousands and thousands of decanter whiskey got sold and it helped these distilleries through some very rough times. Empty bottles sell on ebay for $25-$50. It's not legal to sell bottles with the whiskey in them but there are special FB pages that get around that in local some local areas. An unopened full bottle is probably worth $60-$100 to the right collector.

It's always open on my bar! This topic was about older whiskey bottles that I am looking for. For example, Eagle rare originally was a higher proof back in the 90's I believe. I'm looking for those kind of 'discontinued' bottles.
