Default Steffs oil pan

My pan should be shipped Monday be they sent me some pics. Its a 8 1/2" drag race pan for a stock frame 68-72 A-body. It has a built in windage tray and a big kick-out on the passenger side. It has all the accel and decell trap doors.
I am getting a couple options. A dipstick provision on the passenger side sump. And a 1/8" female pipe bung located on the driver side under the pan rail just in front of the starter (mini starter) I had this done so if I ever want to get a crankcase vacuum sensor in the future it will be easy. There is room with a shorter starter.
I had to send them a template of the front billet cap and studs. They would hit with my Canton pan and no way to get their windage tray to fit. Splayed billet caps would not allow it.
They sent me the pics because I am getting antsy for it. I am making my own pickup as I have enlarged the opening on a Melling Select 60lb pump.
When I get it I will post up some pics of the options and the inside with the tray and trap doors.
It looks sweet, I can not wait.

Great looking pan! Question, have you considered the Luhn oil pump? A little pricey but it's a very good , quality piece. I've used two of them on different engines and have been very pleased.

Looks like 4 bolts for the passenger side. The plugs you see are removed, then the bolts go up through there.

Luhn are the folks that convinced me to enlarge the pickup diameter. Gave me the part number for the larger pickup with correct coned shaped pickup. They used to do what I am doing right now. This is all by their instructions with my fabrication skills. I will post up what I do with the pickup.
Thier pump is not cheap and I can get in effect the same thing for under 100$. The pickup I am using has a .814 dia, this with the Nightmare bottom plate, blueprinted pump and I will have in effect a pump as good as their top of the line pump for a lot less.

What Scott said. You lose some bolts with their aluminum pan vs a Canton steel pan. Steffs uses a heavy 3/8" thick pan rail so you lose some of the corner bolts. Stan at Steffs tells me they run The Right Stiff silicone and do not have any leaking issues with it.
This pan actually gives you some horsepower so I am happy about that. The folks at Steffs are GREAT, very nice to work with. I was going to have Canton make me one but the Covid thing sent the guy home with the files to custom make the pan I wanted. They did not want to do anything extra to make me happy and Steffs was more than willing.

I can tell you my Stef's 409 pan I had to send back as several of the bolt holes were off-and they said they had a block there for fit. Had to "massage" the rail in a few places also. So just check fit when you get it. They were fine getting it back and at N/C. Overall I'd use them again.

Steffs is shipping the pan today. Stan gave a me a call and confirmed. Asked if the 1/8" pipe bung was for oil temp or crankcase vacuum sensor. Told him vacuum so they are putting a shield over it for oil splash per their recommendations.
The options I am getting are at no charge too. Dealing with Steffs is a good experience. They look to please the customer which is nice.

Just curious, why take vacuum reading from the pan?

Thought you guys were "in the know".

Well seriously I seen something about pan vac sensor in a post from a ECM guy. Were you can tell if your engine is "happy" with one. Did some research, people are doing it. Steffs also said so , they put the provision in, no charge.
Its for the future, if I ever get into data logging. Or just might put a gauge on it.

It's a good thing to watch and monitor, just never seen it put into the oil pan myself. With stock framed cars and headers there isn't much room for things.

We picked-up our crankcase vacuum signal right above the block-off plate for the stock mechanical fuel pump. Thought it would be out of the oil for the most part in that location. It worked fine. Oil pan is fine as well. With the nitro engine, it was very accurate in determining where in a run we pinched a ring land or had a more serious issue. Very helpful.

Pics of the trap doors. Looks like they are plastic with Steffs logo on them. Box showed up, took some pics and went to work. I will trial fit it tomorrow.
It looks to be a very nice piece. It comes with allen bolts required to bolt it on. There are plugs you have to remove and get to with socket and extention on hte kickout side (passenger)

Thanks, looking at the dipstick provision its hard to imagine the oil level not being close to that 1/4" pipe bung when full of oil. Not even positive I can even use it, the location came from crawling under the car with a tape measure and picking a spot.
They put it and the vacuum 1/8" pipe bung in for not charge. Positive I can use that one. Since they were no charge I wish I had another 1/8" bung lower for a oil temp sensor if I ever wanted it.
Big change for me after so many years with iron heads and stock pan. Engine should look great with the pan and High Ports.
