C.W. made to round 5, with 6 cars left, but left too soon & tripped the red-light. But, congrats to him for winning 4 rounds.

They ran the 1st round of Stock on Sat, for the 2nd race. All 3 Pontiacs survived it.

C.W. won his quarter final round. The other 2 remaining cars are 9 sec FS cars. Hope he gets the semi-final bye run.

But hey, being #3 in that field is doin pretty good. I'd say C.W. has had a good weekend !

Well, C.W. did get the bye, but had to settle for RU. He cut a good .017 light. But Scott cut a better .006.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2021/lu...ock-eliminator

Congrats to C.W. for a very good showing this weekend, representing old school Pontiac power.

Only 2 Pontiac powered Stockers on the pre-entry list. They are: Chris Stephenson, with his 400 powered '68 Bird & Michael Brand, with his SD455 powered '73 Bird. But, just because they're on the list, don't mean they'll actually be there, or that they'll be driving the car listed. I think they can drive any legal car that competes in the same class entered. In recent events, Michael's wife has been driving their '73 Bird. So, I don't know what car they'll have there or who'll be driving it.

In S/G, Pontiac powered entries include Laurel Morris & Matt Tankersley.

In Stock Q-1, Michael Brand was #11, with a .700 under run of 10.85. He's apparently still running the SD455 engine, since he's in D/SA. Chris Stephenson was #50, in C/SA. I've seen his '68 Bird run every class from C/SA down to F/SA. Although this list shows his car listed as a '68 Bird, he could be driving something else. The driver & his perm number are entered in the race. He can actually drive whatever car he wants, that is legal for the class. In the past, I've posted that a driver was driving a Pontiac, but he turned out to be driving another brand. So, the posted lists are not always correct.

They're showing that Chris Stevenson has moved to AL, but still has his div 3 perm number.

For some reason they ran class elims @ this race.

Looks like C.W.'s 426 Mopar powered G/SA opponent was a little over confident, slacked off on the light, & got beat by a Pontiac with a holeshot.

In Stock, Brad Koivisto was #13. Rob Holmes was #17. Both cars were more than a sec under. Dave Batta & Don Turk were also on the list. Billy Foder was at the end of the list, with a DQ. Don't know what's up with that. Anybody know ?

Here's the SS Q-sheet.

http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...80&postcount=7

Irvin Johns is #3, in his 428 powered Cobalt, with an 8.782 !

If that time is correct, it's WAY below the index, & is the quickest pass ever made by a Pontiac powered SS car, in competition. The previous quickest I'm aware of was an 8.90, made by Robert Cruzen's 428 powered Cobalt, in his Indy GT/AA class win.

I think that since this race is what's called a "National Open", the AHFS is not in affect & maybe the NHRA hp police won't give the 428 Pontiac engine a big hp factor hit.

So far in Stock. Bruce Noland is #15, with his RA4 powered '69 T/A tribute Bird. Robert Holmes is #23, with his '77 Formy.

http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...1&postcount=10

In SS, it appears that Michael Brand is running his SD455 powered '73 Formy Stocker, in SS/IA this week. He's #58.

http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...0&postcount=14

Would be interesting to know why Michael is running SS, with the SD455 Bird. Will take 6 round wins to make the finals, in either class. But, as long as he doesn't have a same-class heads-up round, I suppose he has just as much chance to win SS, as Stock. It will basically just be a bracket race, between SS legal cars.

thanks for posting!

I see Todd Hoven listed as racing a Hemi Coronet...I haven't been following along closely enough. I thought Todd was running Truman Fields' Hard Times Firebird in recent year/s..?

Bruce Noland wound up in #22 position, after today's Stock qualifying, with an .866 under, 10.534. Robert Holmes was #31, @ .817 under.

https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop

Michael Brand was #73, in SS.

Yeah, Todd has been driving the Mopar for a couple of years now. Duane Hoven drove the Bird at a few races. Haven't seen it listed at a race now in quite a while. I am just assuming that they feel the car is worth much more as a piece of drag racing history, than as a currently active Stocker. They're probably right. So, we may never see it on active race duty again. Who knows.

Truman Fields won a lot with it, with several different paint schemes. Don't know what his 1st win with it was. But, he's pictured with it, for winning C/S @ Indy in '77. In that pic, it looked to be green, with a black vinyl top.

As most Pontiac guys know, the car is the one that Roy & Mike Mckinney traded to Truman, in a deal for Truman's '68 Bird he won Stock with, @ Indy '73.

They did quite well with Truman's original Bird, beginning with winning Stock @ Indy '77.

Robert Holmes survived Stock E-1. Bruce Noland cut a bad light & lost. But, if the numbers on NHRA Live Timing are correct, his 10.442 ET MAY be his best time in competition, so far, for his '69 T/A tribute car. Don't know for sure. His C/SA index is 11.40. So, his 10.442 ET is .958 under his index. That's pretty quick.

https://www.nhra.com/results/2021/lu...ock-eliminator

There were quite a few C/SA cars entered. Bruce was the quickest in qualifying & in the 1st round. So, unless one or more of the other C/SA cars was really sandbaggin, Bruce MAY have won the C/SA class, if they'd run class at this race.

Kevin MacNicol has survived 2 rounds of S/ST.
