Glad to see both of you guys are still around and still dealing with Poncho stuff! Although I didn't discover them until the late 80's, you're books were the technical inspiration for the engine that I use in the world famous Yanque Tanque (the worlds fasted 1970 roadracing Trans Am). I still run your tri-y headers to this day! (any chance you'll build them again one day?)
Thanks so much for sharing all your information with the Pontiac world. It is greatly appreciated and used daily by so many of us.

BTW I second the nomination for VP's!

Tradermike2012: I am trying to insert the correct Photos, as close as I can, back into this broken Post. PY Forum past post H-O Document. Wish me luck!

Tradermike Here: I have two sets of Tunnel Ram Photos, one from H-O and One from A Boat, see if you can tell which is which. I will group them separately.

Mike Here, as I scour my computer for the Bath Tub Photos, keep in mind that the Photos already presented so far contain the "Bath Tub" look, which is the Tunnel Ram less the top Plate that Holds the Carbs.

These Pictures of Motors were too Good to pass up so I Inserted them Instead of nothing. Mike out.

Mike s Reply: There are people on the PY Forum Manufacturing Dual Quad. As we speak, I wonder how many were built so far, chine in with the answer and how you're doing with that project? I don't think they are coping with the Ram Air Box, however if it was me, I would use today's version and put it in a Box like H-O did and install it under the Dual Quads. I would use those 4" spacer Phenolics with 4 tapered cones inside to act as the Ventures in the modern version, that is if I were to create one. For now, I am happy with my Tri-Powers.

Vic in turn called Jim McFarland, who was Editor-in-chief of Popular Hot-Rodding magazine at the time to suggest that PHR do a story on us. This led to:

A feature article in Oct 1973 PHR, followed by a feature article in Mar 1974 in PHR. This resulted in a "fantastic response" (PHR's words) by Pontiac fans. This led to:

Our writing two books (Pontiac HD Parts & Specs and Pontiac Engine Design & Assembly) to try and satisfy an overwhelming request for information from Pontiac fans. This led to:

Me resigning my "day job" in the USAF in order to run H-O Racing Specialties full time. This led to selling the complete 326 engine w/TR to Selden Ruwwe to raise cash to operate the business startup.

These events meant that we did not have much time to further flog the 326 or TR or the 1965 Tempest (nee GTO) race car.

Here's a picture of the 326 installed in Selden's 1963 aluminum front end (non-SD) Tempest. He successfully campaigned it in that configuration for a couple of years. Then he had us build a "380" (1958 370+0.060) for that car, but that's another story. :-)

Mikes Response: Since I don't know which Vehicle, they are talking about, I will Post what Photos I have on them.

I want to give John Wallace some credit because some of the Photos came off his site and not all are signed in his Hand. This concludes Mikes contribution to this PY Forum about H-O for now. If anyone has Information to Insert here get ahold of me and I will download your Info to a file on my computer and input it here. I am going to pick another H-O Document to fix now, by for now.

Nice to see these photos. There should be another tunnel ram around. Jim Miller in Monroeville Pa. area built one around a small block Chevy tunnel ram. The manifold went on a 303. I was there when he was cutting and fitting. This was before 1974. The engine first went into a 61 Catalina, then a 1970 Formula. I never saw the car run. Then the parts were sold off. I do not have pictures. I think Jim had some kind of plans maybe he got when buying the 303 parts from Pontiac engineers.

Mikes Back, I thought I was done tonight, I just ran into a few Photos I want to share: Notice to the right of the NHRA tall Tunnel Ram, see that object that looks like it came out of H-O Tunnel Ram, at least the idea anyway?

About Us

The PY Online Forums is the largest online gathering of Pontiac enthusiasts anywhere in the world. Founded in 1991, it was also the first online forum for people to gather and talk about their Pontiacs. Since then, it has become the mecca of Pontiac technical data and knowledge that no other place can surpass.
