It's still better than the crusher. I talked to a curator at a railroad museum years ago who kept equipment waiting to be restored in the back, accessible to ambitious vandals. As a result, the cars were covered by graffiti and people howled. His response was that until the equipment can get properly restored, what's the harm in allowing free paint jobs to keep the rust at bay? Tough to argue that one and methinks it applies here a little bit.
