Buddy calls me about a 1978 911 sitting 20 years
Hi everybody. My buddy hit me up about a car for sale it’s his uncles been sitting 20 plus years garaged of course. It’s a 78 911. He said it has a wide body slant nose kit done back in the day. Does that hurt value? Feels like it’s one of those one chance things where I get the golden ticket to buy it before it goes on marketplace or whatever. Don’t want to cut the dudes throat but I’d have to buy responsibly as I already have an upside down project. Looking forward to sharing pics once they arrive. I don’t know anything about Porsches so if ya know what to watch out for that’s a big help.

I think the factory slantnose cars were all 930 Turbos, so assuming it's a regular 911SC under the skin it was most likely an aftermarket body kit. There's a little history on slantnose cars here: https://www.911flachbau.com/generations Whether the kit affects the value will depend somewhat on the quality of the kit and how well it was installed, but I think most people are looking for originality these days - a non-Turbo car with the kit is kind of a poser, and is probably considered to be out of style by a lot of people today. Also, since it's been sitting that long it's going to require some reconditioning to the fuel system, brakes, ancient tires, etc. in any case, 911s in general are pretty pricey.
This is from the Hagerty valuation website, of course any valuation guide values should be taken with a grain of salt. Current Values #1 Concours $100,000 #2 Excellent $75,000 #3 Good $44,000 #4 Fair $34,000 |

Not a fan of the slant nose look.

In my opinion the bug eyes are iconic and the end all be all of air cooled. But maybe I can snag for less than 10 what the heck play with it a bit and send down the road. It is a poser

If you can get it for that, go for it. The 911SC of that era has always been a popular choice.

Look at the completed auctions at Bring a Trailer for indications as how the market receives these modified cars. Spend some time reading the comments on the listing for things to watch for.
Real 911SC's are not very streetable so there maybe a market for properly done clones.

That generation of 911 is red hot right now in the market. Being a flachbau replica should help the value if anything.
I'd say buy it.

The 930 Turbo back then was a handful, but the 911SC was their standard model in 1978. All reports I've heard is they were a very good street car; I used to work with a guy who had one and he drove it daily.

Update it’s a steel slant nose conversion. So that’s good.

You are correct. I meant 930 turbo. I have a friend who saved and searched for 15 years for the right 930 only to scare himself so bad in the first 100 miles he sold it 6 months later.

G-Series 911 prices are very high right now. I'm not sure the flachbau conversion, even in steel, would "add" to the value any, but that one looks like a pretty well done conversion, so likely wouldn't hurt much either.
And if it's a CA rust free car... all the better. Did I understand you thought you might be able to get it for less than 10k? If that's the case, don't waste a minute.

I have a hard time taking this post seriously. “A 911 for $10k. Should I buy it?” Really?
