Default 2" headers in my 69 with highports

Stock frame 1969 gto with highports, looking for a reccomendation on a set of 2" headers that I don't need to beat with a hammer. It's an automatic as well. I have a ministarter and shaved firewall with no ac. Do the Doug's 2" headers fit well?

Also running mity mounts and I don't want to raise the engine as hood clearance with my northwind would be tight

I put 2" Doug's in my brother's 1970 LeMans street car with RP Eddy heads and a 4 speed, there were some tight spots but they did not require any hammer work.

Do the highports have a different height on the exhaust exit then the edelbrocks?

Doug's are always our "go to" header.

How much is it to have some headers coated ? Have a sweet set of 2" Dougs, slip collectors. Weld in 02 bungs and coat them.

Not sure hiw much coating is now. Butler has 2" bare steel Doug's for 599 though. I'm thinking it would be at last 400 with shipping to coat

Good to know. I heard Maddog headers were great but hard to get a hold of? Wish I could go that route

I think here at PolyDyn coating header is around 300+. And I can drop them off vs shipping charges.

I would get bare headers, mock up and then get them coated after installing an O2 sensor bung in each collector. It cost $250 to get my brother's headers coated 3 years ago at a place in NH. I run Mad Dog headers on my '68 FB race car and the fit is very good even with 2". I just bought some from Maddogs last year and I have his number if you want it.

Good point. I think I may order the dougs only because I need them now. Any idea on the name of that place in NH?

I think it's Direct Coating in Concord, NH, I'll try to look for my paper work. They are an hour from me so I drove the headers up there.

I built my own with flanges from Kre for my Highports. They are fenderwell exit headers, one is a slip fit. A place by Chicago coated them for about 150, but that was a few years ago.

Anyone ever needs 69 bird round ports call tubular automotive in mass they made headers for that car in the 60s and they fit very well, not sure about GTO but they are well known for quality stuff. My car had them
On it when raced in 69.

Their catalog should be online. They made the headers for a lot of the companies that I see people buying from that charge more for them.

Also a great resource is mad dog headers they just did a set of RAV for me for 69 bird and I was very happy with the headers.

Since you're in the race section, I would suggest Kooks headers, they are in NC. If they don't have an " on the shelf set" , they can build anything want...
