Thanks these are very different than Ford or Mopar. I see my confusion.

Couldn't have known anything with out all you Pro's telling me what it all means. One more question. What is Built B series cars? Like GP or what. I just hope it is a good engine for this car. Not grandma's go getter .

Here is another shot of a closed chamber head.
Just enough of a pocket for the valves.

69 YD 400 2bbl Automatic Full size car application is your block code , yes.
Catalina and very basic models of full size.
Lowest 400 on the totem pole.
But all 9790071 blocks are identical regardless of their stamp code.
Exact same block as a 69 Ram3 4spd WS code rated at 366hp

The #13 heads are 1970 model only.
Yours are extremely early production in July 1969
We have seen this trend before with 1970 cast parts.
I had a complete 70 GPrix XH/13 engine and all of it had G dates
In other years a July casting would still be for that years production model.
Some things vary from one year to another.

Your intake part number was used during 2 years.
Part of 1968 & 1969
From around March 1968 ,,,, all the way through all of 1969 production.
You will just have to look at the casting date on it to determine.
With luck it might be an H date of 68 , and date correct for the car.

Any of the 1974 and earlier 400 blocks and some later ones are all a fine foundation for a performance engine build, it’s the heads and camshaft that determine the performance.

Your #13 heads were used as a higher performance 400 head, all engines using them were factory rated at 350 hp. Automatic transmission GTOs and GPs all used these heads in 1970, you have an excellent foundation already sitting in your garage.

Your Block , Heads , Intake , Exhaust Manifolds put your engine as comparable equipment to a Ram3 engine.
As far as the actual cast iron pieces.
Just because your block code sucks - it doesn't limit its power .
You can put a sticker over it.

Ram3 had special carbs and distributors that you don't want to know the going prices.
But ordinary pieces can be tuned to work just as well.
Not much cam involved with Ram3 engines , anything aftermarket is usually an upgrade.
They had about .410 - .420 lift

Well I just want the car to be as close as I can make it. I would never try to make it what it is not and that is original. This has made me feel that the car can be as close as possible for myself. As far as the distributor I installed an electronic one to make it more user friendly. Carb wise I think the one I have is off a 455. I am just building a tribute Judge GTO. There only original once and this one is not and I am ok with that. I just want it to be saved and be a good tribute. I bought a complete RAIII kit for the hood and air cleaner. I personally was ok with the engine .I paid 400.00 for it. But found it very interesting to learn about what it was and where it came from. And I do thank everyone for their effort in helping me. Now if you will just help me find a 67 GTO LMAO!

I personally want to thank PY Forum and its members for all the information and their time in helping me understand some facts about the Pontiac engines. This has been very helpful. Great site I am very impressed.

I'm enjoying the fact that you care enough about preserving the Pontiac engine that you are willing to learn about it. So many people now just toss an LS or SBC engine in there and call it done!

Welcome!

For $400 you have an amazing engine that creates envy and repels shame.

Not to fight back, but IMO the term "suck" is not even close to accurate.

Congrats!

B-Body's are the big cars like Bonneville, Catalina and possibly the Grandville.

GP is a G-body. (GTO's - A-body, Firbirds are F-body)

I respect what they were. That is why I have more than one brand. They all offered something in the muscle car wars. I was a teenager when all that was taking place. If you install a modern engine you loose what they were in the day.

X2 on that comment. So many people who are not die hard "Pontiac People", would take one look at the Pontiac engine, spend 15 minutes on the Summit Racing site looking at the prices of various LS and SBC parts compared to a traditional Pontiac and rip the Pontiac engine out and be done with it. As I said in my welcome post, there is allot of passion for the Pontiac V-8 engine and the hand full of us still running them are proud of the underdog, taking the road less traveled way to performance. You are to be applauded for caring enough about the brand to keep a Pontiac engine under the hood and preserve history. There is a wealth of knowledge here and some parts you may need as well. Good luck with the car.
