The longer tubes in a very high velocity area can cause the engine to go very rich which is why some guys were adding very small multiple bleed holes to the tubes to find the best balance of high fuel flow under high boost and not too rich under moderate velocity/ boost conditions. A "bleed" line would dump too much signal as the pressure signals are very small vs a big change in bowl pressures at some extension tip locations.

Well I looked and it is from Street Power magazine May 1981.(not Street/Strip as I thought) Every now and then the old magazines had articles that were actually useful!
