What was the 1964-1970 GTO SUPERLIFT options' purpose?

In PONTIAC GTO RESTORATION GUIDE rear suspension section, pgs 231 & 232, I see:

The Superlift option was offered from 1964 through 1969. However it was only a dealer-installed option in 1970…. These accessory package numbers were Delco part numbers. There were no Pontiac accessory part numbers for the Superlift package.

my understanding is the super lift was just air shocks ( adjustable ) towing ? or extra weight in the back ( fat friends ) and pump away your ride height is back to normal

Where did you find those parts Alvin? I've never seen them before, and would sure love to find em for myself.... but probably could never afford them. LOL
