Default Rear wagon door not fully latching

The rear fold down door on my 66 Catalina wagon doesn’t want to latch right. It’s acts like it’s only catching on the first click lock and not fully latching closed. As in no matter how hard you close the door, it will partially latch, but I can still wiggle the door back and forth 1/2” or so. And it still requires you to lift the door handle to open it, so I know it’s partially latching.

I tried to loosen the striker plate on the car itself and slide it forward and back with no success. Hopefully that all makes sense. Anyone ever had this issue?

Try cleaning and lubing the latch (s).

My 62 Wagon is similar. It will fully close but you have to really give it some muscle.

Mine what happens is one side fully closes and the other one doesn't want to.

I really need to get in and clean/lube all of mine.

My 63 Body Manual shows the only tailgate adjustment to be the strikers, so you are on the right course!

Thanks for taking the time to check. Guess I just need to try playing around with them some more. I’m wondering if part of my problem might be on the toothed roller wheels. When I roll the wheel with my finger, it will click with each turn of a tooth, but it still has play in it and will rock back and forth probably a 1/4” both ways.

I’m curious if anyone else knows if the toothed wheel on your wagon hinges is solid when spun or does it still rock back and forth? I feel like it’s hard to explain and I don’t know how to upload a video.
