Starter fluid, brake clean,, propane…..can be used.
Old brittle vacuum lines, intake gaskets, brake booster, etc. can all be possible sources |

1. Some brake cleaner doesn't burn. If it doesn't enrich the fuel mix, you'll have a harder time finding leaks. Aerosol carb cleaner or propane or starter fluid burns, enriches the overly-lean mixture, RPM jumps up, vacuum leak is easier to locate. I use carb spray. 2. Some brake cleaners become POISONOUS when burned. Creates phosgene gas, can SERIOUSLY screw up your body. Maybe kill you. |

Spray bottle & fine mist of water works great & no mess to engine paint & coatings

Pieces of vac hose, one end next to your ear, the other used a probe around suspected leak areas.

I’ve always used carb cleaner, since if there is a vacuum leak the carb cleaner is sucked in killing the engine.

You'll have to test all vacuum motors with a hand operated vacuum pump that has a gauge. They should not leak down. https://youtu.be/zMok2y05jNE?si=EuWmfZFYMDJe8nXK&t=47 |
