Default '63 Clock Installation

I wonder if anyone has a picture, or perhaps the bracket itself, used to attach the instrument cluster to the dash when there is a clock installed in the rightmost pod instead of a blank face? The blank face bracket does not clear the back of the clock, so I assume there is either a different bracket, or the clock itself should have a mounting stud installed in the rear cover. If it's a separate bracket, perhaps it's also the same one used when a tachometer is installed?

The clock I restored was taken from a '64 LeMans cluster, and it fits perfectly, but perhaps it is missing the mounting stud if the '63 used one.

Default 63 Lemans Clock

The 63 Lemans clock has a rear case similar to a 64 except it has a giant stand-off with a threaded stud made into the back of the housing.

The 63 Lemans clock would be a clock specific to that one year. The '63 second hand and hour numerals are bolder and wider than the '64 or newer A body Pontiac clock.

Thank you- exactly what I needed to know. I will add the stud to the back of my ‘64 clock rear cover.

Did the ‘63 factory tachometer also have a stud on the back since it went in the same location?

Default 63 Lemans Tachometer

You are correct, the '63 Lemans tach had that same mounting stud on the back of the case.

The '63 tach came in 2 different versions; one for a 4 cyl car and one for a V8, (both would have been for a points distributor).

The 64 tach came in 3 versions: 6 cyl, V8 with points distributor and V8 for a car with the Delco transistor ignition option, (very rare).

Thank you, Peter! The short rib on the cases makes it pretty easy to see where to drill for the stud. I hope to have mine installed tonight.

Maybe you could answer another question for me? I’m thinking about adding the ‘65 Ralley Gauges, but hesitate because they have a black background instead of the blue. My radio has the blue background. Is the ‘66-‘67 background color any closer to correct?

There's no place to put the stud on 65 gauges, thats where the oil and temp gauges are

The 66-67 version of Lemans/GTO rally gauges would be a closer match to your radio color but you will run into clearance issues with the mounting vs the wiring plug-ins for rally gauges.

There was never any gauge option available for '63 Lemans due in-large part to the way the bezel mounts into the steel dash. The steel is housing is also where the gauges get their ground to transfer over & into the car body. Via those 2 mounting studs on the back of the housing.

Ah - good point. Looks like those are the repro gauges in a '63 dash? Did you fabricate another way to secure that corner, or just go with 3 attachment points?

Even with this clock installation, I went ahead and used a socket with a ground wire for one of the illumination lamps to make sure the clock body was well grounded.

No haven't decided on that yet, maybe just a screw through bottom below the gauge into the dash frame. Here's what front looks like.
