68 GTO Brake parts ID and questions
Want to make sure my MC and Booster are correct before investing in them.
Application is power drum all around, donor car was a 68 Lemans. MC casting number 5460465 Application code: D7 Booster as seen in photos. I don't see Delco stamped on it, but pretty sure it's original, if not, it was replaced more than 35 years ago. My inclination is to rebuild the original parts, definitely the MC ... not sure about the booster. Want the car correct, but not a show car. Any advice on how to proceed with the booster appreciated. Checked several sources and I don't see a rebuilt kit for this MC (68 with power drums all around) ?? Thanks |

From my understanding many original boosters did not have the Delco stamp.
There is a date/I.D. tab at the top of the booster, facing the firewall. https://www.chevelles.com/threads/de...#post-11097422 Send it here for restoration, highly recommended. https://www.brakeboosters.com If original here should be code at the top front of the MC.

Looks the code on the front of the MC is "C T"
Jeez nobody told me the tab on the booster was microscopic  Says 365 on one side, 15 on the other. 365 seems to work ... although hard to believe it was made on New Year's Eve. The 15 doesn't seem to apply to anything I'm reading. I assume they are both original to the 56K mile 68 Lemans I parted them from 30 years ago. Last edited by dataway; 11-09-2021 at 04:24 PM. |

Strange they would have the same code for two different MC. (with and without bleeders)

Data, could you measure the angle from vertical of the booster mounting bracket? I have a spare booster from my El Camino that I might install in the future

I'm getting 17-18 degrees
If anyone knows where to get a rebuild kit for the MC please chime in. Probably going to rebuild the booster myself, I've got all the time in the world and show quality restoration of the booster probably wouldn't look at home in this engine compartment. The one I have looks like I can probably even bring out some of the original Cad by shooting it with walnut shells. |

Thank you, snapped up the kit on ebay.
Going to peruse the Kanter catalog tonight. Totally forgot about them, haven't bought anything from them in 20 years. Thanks again. |

This is turning out to be a tough one. Looking for a backup for the ebay MC rebuild kit in case there is a problem.
Kanter shows no specific item in their catalog or online search so I emailed them an inquiry. Raybestos shows no part number for a Drum/Drum MC kit (they do have the Disk/Drum kit) ... emailed them to see if they can find something, or maybe an interchange part. There is a distinct absence of the Drum/Drum kits (manual and power are the same). Numerous sources for Drum/Disc kits. For now I'll have to hope the ebay kit is correct. |

Yeah, thats the thing about NOS parts.
I usually enter the part number in the Ebay search box and then save the search. Part of my morning routine is to check for results Sometimes it will be months until I get a hit, then there might be two or three items within a matter of weeks. Lot of guys getting rid of their stash now days. You never know when you get lucky. Data, try California Pontiac Restoration. They have some NOS parts. Their website is hard to get through so a phone call is usually better. https://www.pontiacparts.net/about/ There's also an Oldsmobile NOS website. What's weird is it's no problem to find the right master cylinder ... so obviously the internal parts can be had somewhere. I guess as a last resort I could order the correct MC and take the parts out of it
