Default 79 Olds 403

My 79 T.A. auto has the air cleaner crowded against the distributor. Is this a Olds fitment issue?

The donut seal on the inside circle of air cleaner base is not sitting down correctly, shoved forward, so the seal cannot meet the back side of the base.

Standard issue (not necessarily Trans AM) olds air cleaners for HEI applications have the filter housing offset toward the radiator. In essence, the circle of the air filter is not concentric with the housing mounting surface circle on the top of the carburetor.

I suspect you have non-403 parts on a 403 car.

Perfect illustration. The "ledge" on the short side is for HEI clearance.
