Dang that is heavy for a first gen! I always thought they were lighter than second gens. My second gen Camaro/iron IA is 3595 race weight with me and has full interior.

Race weight with me in the car for my '68 with one fiberglass seat and an IAII with Ali heads is 3550# with a 6 point roll bar. With 10 gal of fuel.

I got the new Split Mono Springs installed today.. The rear sits about 1" higher than before, not terrible. I will wait to see if they settle any, but I doubt it. I will be ordering the shocks next week. The old springs definetly had 1 with less arch in the spring. That must be why the car sat so crooked.

did you wait to tighten the bushing bolts until full weight was on the wheels? i assume you did but lots of people arent aware of or overlook that with new bushings so just wanted to mention it.

Thanks, yes I did. I read that in an earlier post. Without that i probably would not have thought of doing it that way. I called Calvert and got a shock and initial setting recommendation. I didn't ask him about preload though. How much preload are you all using? I'll be foot braking, no trans brake.

Scott: I just do there recommended preload on the Caltracs. I believe it's a quarter to half turn with the driver in the seat. What was the recommend setting for the shocks? I posted a pic a friend gave me at the track this summer.

The tech said the shocks have a 9 way setting, for a footbrake car he said to start at #6

I've cracked the main leaf of a multi-set three times, twice on the right side and once on the left. Always happened during cold weather in Ohio. The right side breaks came after installing a B&M Transpack kit in my younger, naive transmission knowledge days. The left side break happened when the flexplate cracked and pulled the converter out of the pump tangs in the transmission and it locked up. Wound up installing the HD spring sets used on the 1975 police edition Nova. (It was handy working for GM at the time)

yeah ive seen cracked leafs in multi leaf cars & trucks too, but the other leafs kept the rear together. crack a mono leaf & theres nothing else there to keep the rear end in place, im sure these mono leafs are fine for majority of cars on the street, just mentioning what ive heard about safety issues in extreme situations.

Not as big a deal on aluminum spring eye bushing since the inner sleeve still spins vs rubber where the sleeve is captured by the rubber.

Front bushing is an Aluminum outter busing with a steel inner that is free to spin in the aluminum. The rear has neopreme or poly bushing.

I ran aluminum/steel in the Tri City Launcher Springs in the 78 TA even on the street. Just pulled them off to put street/cornering springs on it and they looked fine 20+ years later.
