Default 3rd gen Firebird swap questions

Hi all. I’ve searched but evidently I suck at searching..
There was a guy that did a build thread on a Pontiac V8 swap into a 3rd gen on here but I can’t find it. It was really good. Seems like a High School shop class did some of the work. Can any of you guys send me a link if you know the thread?

Also, is there a set of headers that can be modded to work on this swap?

Thanks
Murf

Never mind I found the thread.

Still wondering if anyone has any header experience on this swap.

Thanks again

I have done this swap. Real happy with it with my 428 and TKX 5 speed. Headers are a pain, I used the RA manifolds and they fit perfect, lined up well and with 2.5” mandrel bent down pipes was very nice.

Picture rotated on me….

I'm in the process of doing this on a 91, you got a link to that thread?

It’s wasn’t as in-depth as I remembered.

If you want to run 4 tube headers they need to be custom and they need to swoop forwards away from the firewall and then turn back to get under the motor .
3 tube headers might be cheap enough to start with and modify them to clear and to hopefully mod with a nice big 2 , 2 1/4" or even 2.5" center tube depending on your hp and rpm needs!

I believe that headers are the only problem;
If my memory serves me, the 1982 Trans AM was intended to be offered with the 301-T drivetrain, so swapping in second gen mounts does the trick.

There's also the common electrical issue when going from the Chevy to the Pontiac that the battery now needs to be on the other side of the nose of the car as does the wires to the starter.

There is a great thread on this swap over on Thirdgen forum. Many people have tried to do this swap but most don’t finish the swap. It seems the little items add up to make it correct. I spent a ton of time and money doing mine but wanted it to look factory installed.

I talked to a guy who did get headers on his third gen and I recall he had to flip the tubes on number 5 & 7 and rotate them upwards. I think the passenger side cleared without too much issues
