It's been 2 1/2 months since the last post and the work had stalled on the HO Cat. Since then we busied ourselves with the Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk, the Trans Am Nationals in Dayton (really Fairborn), and the Pure Stock Drags in Michigan; all which were very fun and successful events. The great news is work has finally restarted on the remaining sheet metal (front end) to make perfect before the paint is applied in a few weeks. Unfortunately, the Cat won't be at MCACN for the full size muscle display. But, on the bright side, it'll be ready for next spring and 2022 shows and the pure stock drags(?).

Any progress is good. It will be stunning when it's done.

Thanks for the update. I was honestly wondering about this build…glad you are running forward again - it is such a special car. I hope to see it in person some day.

Thanks Stuart and Wild Cat! We're hoping the momentum continues this time to finish the car...there's not that much to do anymore. It certainly has been a long road, but faster than other projects we've worked on...lol! The hood is almost ready, then test fitting on the car, then paint.

Default 1968 Catalina 2-door post 428HO

Hello Eveveryone,

I just starting reading this lengthy threat today with much interest. I think I owned this very car in 2009. I am in NJ and purchased such a car from an estate. The car was blue when purchased.
After purchase I ran a PHS which I still have a copy. It shows a paint code of "QQ" which is Verduro Green so the car had been painted in the past.
I do have some history on the car and am willing to share with the current owner. I knew at the time the car was very rare and probably ordered to race in the Stock Eliminator or Super Stock class. I am happy to find out its being concours restored.
I sold the car after a short time since I already had a'70 GTO and a '78 Trans Am project, and had no storage Plus the car had a very rusty frame. The car was stored at a friends house in southeast PA near Hatfield.
I'll ask that the owner to send me a PM with the VIN # and I will confirm if its the same car.

Hey rockys1970! Dan sent you a PM this morning, so hopefully we'll be learning something new about the Catalina...if it's the same one (which I'm quite sure it is).

The front fenders were trial fitted today and need a couple more tweaks before paint. The hood is good to go and you can see the hole for the hood tach that Dan is adding (didn't have one originally). This is a replacement hood as the original had a dozen small holes drilled under a hardware store mailbox hood scoop.

SD455DJ

Dennis , I did not receive a PM today. Can he resend it? Or as an option he can send me an email at rscotell@gmail.com.

One thing about the story is strange. I do not remember the car I bought had a hood scoop. I have a few photos and they show a flat hood. There was other sheet metal that went with the car including post doors. Could have also included another hood (with scoop). So could there be another one of these 2-door post Catalina HO''s that were from the same area? Thats why I'll need the VIN# to confirm.
Regards,
Rocco

Rocco, I send your email on to Dan (he's at a Pontiac club meeting tonight of all things). Thanks a bunch!

The scoop was in the trunk and was painted Voodoo green and there was duct tape covering the holes on both sides. I posted pictures of the scoop and holy hood way back in the early days of the thread in posts 64 & 65.

Dennis,
OK. Make sense now. The scoop could have been in the trunk. The photos I have are not clear enough to see the holes in the flat hood. Plus that was over 10 years ago and my memory is not what it use to be.
I'm feeling more confident its the same car. The VIN# will confirm.

Rocco, I sent you a PM to see if you receive it. Dan said he tried PM'ing and email, but apparently, they both are not going through. I did include Dan's email address in the PM for you to use to contact him...if you get it.

The final block sanding will start after the holidays as the K-38 has to dry and cure first (I don't know what K-38 is...hi-build primer maybe?), and then paint. Here are a few progress pictures from this past week.

Hopefully in the next couple weeks. Scott has had some issues with employees, so down to him and one other painter, totally messing with getting the work done.

Making some progress finally on the front end sheet metal. Final sanding/body prep is done and the bottom side of the hood was painted satin black with the front edge lip painted VooDoo Green with a touch of overspray on the underside (hard to see as it's very light). The color coats begin on Monday with the completion by weeks end.

Default Paint at Last!

The front fenders, hood, and hood tach shell are finally getting some paint. The front valance is still getting a little finessing before it gets painted next week.
