Default A/C Center Vent Question

Feeling somewhat less intelligent at the moment, but here goes...

I took the cylindrical center vent out of the A/C control panel, and now I cannot get the vent to stay in place when reassembled. The only step I remember taking to get the vent out is to remove the retaining clips on either side. Now with everything together, it seems these clips do not extend far enough to actually hold the vent in place. Is there something else that I have misplaced and/or forgotten about? See photo and video below.

It's been a long time since I had my dash all apart but IIRC there should be rectangular dense felt blocks that go in between the wheel pins and the retaining clips.

Hope this helps, it looks like Jeff is correct, this pic seems to show those "blocks"? From my reproduction shop manual.

Perfect, thanks guys! I was able to find one of the felt blocks/cubes, but the other one must've gotten lost. It'll be easy enough to make one.

When I was putting my 67 together I was able to "stretch" those "blocks" just a little to tighten the vents to keep them from rotating on their own. Lap vents have the same "blocks".

I replaced all of those blocks years back. I used felt stripping with stick-um on one side. The strip is 1/8" thick and 1/2" wide. I cut a piece about 5/8th long, split it to get 2 pieces. I peeled off the backing and folded the sticky sides together. The pieces fit right into the niches for the vent ends. If you want to give that a try, send me a PM with your address and I'll mail you a piece long enough to do all three vents.

Kerm, I just wanted to let you know that I received the felt stripping last night and got it fitted this morning. Worked like a charm! Thank you very much.

You are very welcome, Ham... I'm glad that my memory of the set-up served me well! Not something that I can say all the time. Your detailing of the control unit looks super. Be well

I have been searhing for these clips everywhere with no luck and no good pic. I came across this thread and now Im confident I will be able to make the clips and "foam blocks" to finish my dash. These forums have been my saving grace in this adventure! Thanks all
