Default 67 manual brake master cylinder

We're getting ready to put a dual reservoir master cylinder on my son's 65 Tempest. I plan to buy one for a 67 Tempest/LeMans/GTO. My question is regarding power vs. manual brakes. Is the master cylinder the same? Do I just swap the push rod from his original single reservoir master cylinder to the replacement, or do I need to find something specific for manual brakes? The listings I see, some say power, some say manual, and some say both. We're talking about 4 wheel drum brakes.

Thanks,
Importsmasher

The power brake MC has bleeder fittings. If using manual brakes it doesn't matter which one you use.

Assuming this is for a drum brake application

Are you running manual or power?

This is what I would use. I used this on my 71 with 4 wheel manual disc:

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/NMCM...pressionRank=5

It works very well.

It has the chambers reversed for simpler actuation and 1974-80 GM 1/2 ton masters will be in stock a hell of a lot longer than 67 only masters.

Isn't that for disc brakes? He's got 4 wheel drum.

Eventually we're planning on a front disc swap using your parts. I had a Scarebird setup on a 62 Tempest years ago and absolutely loved it! I think you have a kit that will allow 14 inch wheels; he wants to keep his original hub caps.

yes and no - pressure is pressure. We used an all drum OE 68 FB master on a disc conversion - worked perfectly.

Check with PirateJack.com. Their prices are very reasonable. Just make sure you get the right proportioning valve setup for manual brakes. That goes underneath the master cylinder. And you can still use the original push rod too. I believe they're less expensive than NAPA would be.

And as a suggestion, change to disc up front. Scarebird has a kit that's also very reasonable and you can keep your original front spindles. I did that on my 66 back before covid hit us and would never go back to front drums again.

I have the complete front drums, both sides, out in the garage and would sell them if someone is desperate enough to need them.

We do plan on doing a Scarebird disc brake conversion eventually. For now I just want him to have a dual system for safety reasons. I'll check the website you suggested.

Thanks!

Ok Scott. You can use the little line connector on the frame too. Just run a new line to it. I'll get pictures if you need them and post them here.

The only problem I had with Mark's set up was the spacers he supplied to me. They weren't long enough. He's made the change to the correct size so you should not have a problem like I did. There was enough space between the rotor and the bracket. The new spacers he sent me worked perfectly. Just mention Gary from Delaware and he'll know. LOL

Thanks! I put a Scarebird setup on a 62 Tempest I had, and it worked great!

If Mark has any remaining inventory, you'd better grab it while you can.

I like using the mid 60s Cadillac dual master as the outlets are on the opposite side
