Ames parchment interior paint
I bought the Ames Parchment interior paint#827 M27 for the trim pieces for the headliner on my 66. I got a set of the front caps for the windlace off eBay that are nice originals. I lightly sanded them, primered them with SEM white primer and then painted them with the Ames stuff. The Ames Parchment paint is like a super light gold tint. I was expecting these to come out creme like the parchment headliner.
Is this how the originals look? I don't think all the trim pieces had a gold metallic look to them? I need to paint the full windlace front and rear, both sides, door jamb lace etc. The parchment side lace is discontinued so I ordered the white figuring I could paint it with this stuff. |

You are correct. NPD has the paint-dye that looks cream like you're looking for. I used it on my car, matched well without the shimmer.

You need to paint the parts first with a white base and then 1 coat of the parchment , just enough to give it a pearlescent look.

On the 67 GTO with parchment interior, the inside trim pieces, end caps, and tops of the doors and rear quarters are to be painted Cameo Ivory. That will match the headliner.

I used PPG paint in cameo ivory for the inside pillers, top of inside doors and top of rear by the quarter window. It is actually too white as well. I compared it to the headliner and it looks white. I also compared it to the white side lace trim and it matches. So, it looks like I need to find a better matching parchment paint. I'll look into the NPD.
I used a white base primer on the end caps and did a light coat. It looks metallic and I doubt that is what factory was. Thank you all for the replies. |

One other option would be to have it mixed and put in a spray can. My local NAPA store does this.... It's about $30 for a can, which after you pay shipping on the other stuff starts getting pretty close. The stuff i posted about is vinyl dye, so you may not want that. When painting my car, i bought an old paint chip chart for interior colors and got the formula. Here is the correct formula for the factory color if you would choose to go that route.

I think I am going to bring the headliner material in and match paint as closely as I can to that. From all the images I have found the windlace/caps should match the headliner which should match the pillars which should match the upper part of the doors. I don't want to have several different shades of white in there.
Thank you all for the replies. |

No - that mix is for the actual paint for 65,66, & 67. It is the off white with NO gold or metallic to it. It's the paint that us used on the steel for the door tops, a posts and pillar caps. I don't know if it pertains to a 68 or not.

Thank you for the pics. That is how I expect it to look. The Ames parchment paint is like krylon metallic gold. Looks nothing like that and I did use white primer as a base. Even the lace shouldn't be metallic from your pics.

The proper color for the seat backs and door tops and A pillars is Cameo Ivory. It will not match the door panels or vinyl. Guys who try to match the upholstery to the metal don't remember how these cars were originally or weren't born yet. Here's my '67, re-upholstered 29 years ago with Year One stuff....

I used a PPG single stage Cameo Ivory on the seat backs, pillars and door edges. I was second guessing that, so thank you for confirming. I ended up finding a rattle can of off white for the caps and it is very close to the headliner color.

Would anyone know if this applies to 69 firebirds? I need to paint all the hard plastic on my car.

Guys - not to start an argument here but Cameo Ivory is not the interior color. Parchment is the correct color, the color code DuPont number is 9000-L. Cameo Ivory is an exterior color with a color code DuPont number 4024-L. They are two different colors, with the Cameo being a whiter color.

A few years ago someone told me to use "Wimbledon White" on my seat backs.. I know that it's a Ford color but I like the results.
