Default Rally clock knob

Anyone know how to get this off without destroying it?
I believe it unscrews from shaft. Is that correct?

Hold the shaft securely with a pair of GOOD longnose pliers and unscrew it.

Those old GM clock set-knobs are threaded on there 9 ways to Sunday, and they are meant to stay in place for the "normal" 12 to 15 year life span of the car and never come loose.

After 54+ years in one place very often that knob is going to be VERY difficult to remove w/o damaging either the chrome knob or the set stem or both.

Default Rally clock knob

I got it with small vice grips on knob and needle nose pliers on shaft. No damage done. Now to fix clock mechanism.
