vacuum advance question
i am new to the forum and was wondering if someone could give some advice on the correct installation for the distributor vacuum advance for a 1969 judge with manual 4 speed transmission. Any help would be appreciated.

Ported vacuum from the upper right front (driver side) of the carb.

Ported vacuum was for emissions only and one reason that some cars diesel when shut off.

Where do you suggest I get the vacuum for the distributor then?

Distributor vacuum control valve was used for the manual transmission, it will use both ported and manifold vacuum. That is if you have the two hose hookup on the distributor vacuum.one in the front and one in the back. Otherwise manifold valve hookup if you only have the one distributor vac connection.

My personal preference is full vacuum at idle. I haven't had an engine yet, that I didn't feel like it ran better. It just sounds like you're able to achieve the same idle speed with less effort (judging from the exhaust note). It allows a smaller carb throttle blade opening for better signal to the idle circuit in the carb, and as mentioned, less chance for dieseling on shutoff.

lew4ut, Distributor vacuum advance valve may
only have been used for the early 69 manual ram air III . Last edited by Ab69; 12-13-2021 at 10:42 AM. |
