Default 71 Judge, M-22 WO.

I was told my Judge's M-22 WO had the the WO stamped, it does, but I was told to look for the vin on the trans. But I have had so many people tell me different place's the vin is supose to be. Some say on the right some say on the top. I haven't pulled the trans out to look yet and it does have the metal tag as well. I was just curious because i hear 2 different stories about the vin. I have heard some say they have seen them both ways, I didn't know if it was because of different plants or year change? My car is a last week Jan. 1971 455 Ho. from Fremont, Cali. I have all the PHS Doc's.

Thanks for anyone's help.

You heard right, could be either way - passenger side or top. Try a search. Perhaps Fremont in 1971 was always the same.

I had a M22 71 HO car from Fremont. OVERULD now owns car, it is a numbers car with a correct date, and has no vin stamped where it should be.

I heard other Fremont car were that way on the trannies. Maybe that is why you can't find.

More details on the 71 Judge? Colors, options, pix?

What was your car? Is it also a 71 GTO or Judge? I don't know if the m-22 is different then any others. I have seen the vin stamped beside the date code and under the date code on others, I just didn't know about this one. I am planing on crawling under it tomorrow to try to do some searching. Thanks.

Ditto: Show us some pics and give us some details!

Mike: When you replaced the clutch in 2005 - did you look at the top of the tranny when it was out of the car to see if the VIN was stamped up there? Take any pictures? Would love to have them if you did and still have them??

BJ, I had the mechanic do the clutch so I never have seen the top of the trannie. All the M-22 I've seen is the vin is visible.

I have a WO M22 out of a Van Nuys built 71 TA. The vin is stamped on the top surface of the tranny. I always thought they should have been stamped where motorcitymuscle says, but I suppose different plants could have done things differently.

I remember us talking about it and looking at the tranny when the car was on the lift when I first saw it - but can't remember now what is on the side of the casing. But Fremont did a bunch of wierd stuf with VIN number stamping. The VIN on the block is stamped in a different place and is much lighter than on blocks from other plants. It must have been a localized thing??

BJ

PS: What does the WO stand for? That's a new one to me.

FWIW - the "WO" M22 in my 12C '72 GTO (Pontiac plant) has the VIN stamped in the usual location - vertical, passenger side.

WO is the pick code you would find on the buildsheet (if you find it) and let the line worker know what transmission to install.

Yep, there it is in block # 27, code "WO". And the RPO code M22 4SPD MAN TRAN shows in the lower part of the build sheet.

I have pictures of various year transmissions from original cars. A 1969 Judge transmission has the VIN stamped on the "top" of the transmission (as viewed from above imagining it installed in the car) on the "ears" and back "rib" of the main case too. I won't post as the owner has not yet given me permission.

My Judge has the VIN stamped on the side of the trans and it was also built the last week of January out of the Fremont plant. The WO stamp is on the top of the case and the VIN is on the passenger side of the trans and its verticle.

Marksrods what day was the car made? just curious to how close it is to my car, mine was built on the 27th of January.
