Default Reading Slicks Patterns

Hey Everybody,

This is the left rear MT 28 x 10.5W?

What does that indicate?

Possibly the burnout with the rear of the car swerving to the left as it did get crossed up during the last burnout?

What's the other side of the slick look like? Just that on the one side?
Could be too much air.

Try swapping wheel to other side, then try a burnout or 2.

We used to swap them when they get a pattern on them to smooth it back out. (but not that pattern, ours were even across)

Could be a bent axle tube?
Or a big wheel offset? (or possibly a huge preload on that side?)

Switch slicks from side to side and see if the pattern stays on the left side tire?

Axle housing have bracing welded to the axle tubes?

I agree it could be a bent axle tube.

Well the tubes do eventually bend forward from the hard launching with slicks.

I’m not saying the housing is bent but it’s not uncommon and certainly a distinct possibility

My 12 bolt is starting to do that on both tires. I have an anti roll bar on mine. What mine looks like to me is the whole rear assembly is beginning to Banana in shape. Do you have an air bag in the right coil or anti roll system? If you don t that could be why no sign on the right tire. Its lifting enough that its showing little sign. Couple levels on the rims should point out if the axle flanges are out of square.

If you don't have a brace on the tubes, it could be bending some with each launch.

I'd try checking straightness. Might try checking squareness of the chassis/rearend layout also?

If you are hitting a 12 bolt with 1.41 60 foots and without welded axle tubes (still would not help) your axle tubes are bent forward.
I bent a 9" rear, thick 59 truck housing forward with constant 1.44-45 60 foots. Tires looked like yours.
Straightened it out on a fab bench with jacks and welded a Jegs back brace on.
Later I broke 31 spline MW axles. Have 40s in there now.

Is there a repair or strengthening of a 12 bolt?

I’ve seen DOM tubing welded to the axle tubes in the front leading right up to the front of the center section housing and welded there just behind the pinion yoke.

Here’s a couple of ways to do it:
