One Owner 1968 GTO Convertible Barn Find 400 4 Bbl, 4-Speed, 3.55 Saf-T-Track
Hi gang,
I was contacted by the son of the original owner of this WELL OPTIONED '68 GTO convertible that had been tucked away in their barn the son's entire life (in his early 30's). This is a lifelong Milwaukee-area car, purchased new at Duckler Pontiac in West Allis. Odometer shows 26,000 miles. My assumption was 126,000, but I'll let the new owner make that call. PHS documentation has been purchased and will be shared with the new owner. $20,000 as it sits, located in Mazomanie, WI 53560. 60 or so photos here: https://photobucket.com/u/tidmack/a/...f-32ab2c305890 The car is really well optioned with performance in mind, which I see far less in convertibles. In addition to the 4-speed and 3.55 Saf-T-Track, the car is also more unusual with having a white top and parchment interior too. It's also a power steering, power brake, power top, power antenna, buckets, console car, too. Frame, floors, and trunk pan are in really nice shape on this car, Although there is rust repair to make, in my opinion, just the decklid should be replaced, if a full restoration is in mind. I spoke to owner's wife (he passed last year) and the story on this one is so similar to others: the pair were going to buy a new '66 convertible, but he was drafted. His wife told me that the night before he left, he said if he made it out of Vietnam alive, he was going to buy that new convertible. He made it out, and after getting his job back at Harnischfeger (note the P&H parking sticker on the bumper), he and his wife saw this car advertised in the paper at Duckler Pontiac. She said the GTO was on the showroom floor and the purchase didn't take long. I could go on and on with stories, but I'll save those for the new owner. The only work I've performed on the car is I removed all 8 plugs, poured Marvel down each cylinder, and let the car sit for a couple days. As in most cases for me, the motor turned by hand with a 1/2" ratchet after doing this. So, at this time, the engine turns by hand, the transmission shifts in and out of gear, and the car rolls. The top has been lubed, but I have not attempted to take it down, as I'm waiting for a 2nd person to assist, so nothing binds. If someone has interest, message me directly, please. Thank you, guys. |
