Default '69 GTO convertible on BaT

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-pontiac-gto-21/

Not mine and don't know the seller. Just posting for an fyi.

Top side looks good but bottom side looks like there could be rust issues.

That's in my town. I've never seen the car around. If someone was interested in it I might be able to get over to take a look at it for you.

The seller said it "has good bones" but I am skeptical. Since he didn't post good photos of the underside at all, I don't think it would be wise for anyone to place a bid on it unless they look at the car in person or have someone with a trained eye to look at it for them.
This car caught my eye because except for the colors, it is pretty much identical to my car that I bought recently and presently doing a body-off on.

I actually found the address of where the car lives. It's funny, Google Maps shows the car in the garage too. The only thing that caught my eye about it was the gap on the driver side rear bumper. Looks the car might have been hit at one point in time.

A lot of gaps in information from the seller that needs to be provided.

This ends in a few hours.
Somehow the seller doesn't seem totally forthcoming with answers to the condition on his car and has been unwilling to provide any more photos. I'm surprised it has bid to $18,500 with that being the case.
Unless these last bidders actually looked at the car and found that the condition is good. But there is no evidence in the comments that would indicate that.

I often wonder if these discussions are happening behind the scenes using the 'Contact Seller' button. Some sellers request communication that way, which would (at best) appear that they don't want the information to be widely shared for scrutiny. Perhaps it's to weed out questions from non-bidders, but the completely transparent sellers seem to pull in more $$. With all of the knowledge from the viewers, it can usually make or break a decent sale price.

I guess there's no telling. BaT can get a little weird though.
Take a look at this GTO that sold not long ago. Crazy, crazy high bids for a car with lots of issues. Very nice-car price for a car that's definitely a project.

From what I can see, it's worth less than $20K. And if it's worse than what I can see, maybe much less. Or just pass and look for a better project to start with.

My guess is because of a lot of pretty pictures on that one. The paint looked nice, but there were a lot of inoperable parts and the underside wasn't all that. I don't think the Seller ever showed PHS or engine ID...did they?

Wow. The '69 went for $26,500. I think I counted 9 people that bid over $20K. I wonder how many people actually saw this car before bidding.

I didn't see enough in the photos to have any idea if this car was a great project car, a fair driver or a total rust bucket. The sparse seller answers to questions seem very vague to me and didn't give me confidence at all.

Looks like BaT is the new Barrett-Jackson.

My sense is someone got a good deal. Looks like a very solid unrestored car. I get the feeling the lack of info was less about the owner avoiding giving out info and more about him just not being technically knowledgeable. Undercarriage shots are weak but that color of oxidation has that never wintered look. Mid 20’s for what looks to be a virgin solid 69 ragtop with AC, power windows is solid value. While I like the color it probably held back the price. A detailing of the engine bay and interior along with properly detailed wheels and this car would look great, even without touching the paint.

I agree with your perspective, north. A reasonable deal for a solid project.

I really like that Mayfair car. Looks good to me. The rust underneath appears to be of the surface variety.
As for the '68, what the heck was the exhaust guy thinking when he locked the muffler down in that position? I can't believe the '68 went for over $50K. I'm a '68 guy but I'd take the '69 over that one if I had to judge strictly on the photos.
The underside of that '68...I'm sorry but it looks like crap on a soda cracker.
