The single stage acrylic enamel black paint is available for $120--$160 per gallon depending on the brand. Black paint is and always has been the cheapest paint. Red the most expensive. If you are paying $590 per gallon you must have your own reasons.

Just paint on the inside of the fenders and a couple coats of 3M Cavity wax. I don’t care for undercoating....it just hides bad stuff. . And the best advice I can give you....is when your car is complete....DO NOT WASH IT WITH A BUCKET OF SOAP AND RINSE IT WITH A HOSE. You have to keep these old cars dry as possible. Your just speeding up the rust-man by adding water to your CAAH. I use a soapless car wash spray.....and wipe it down with a micro fiber towels. My GTO hasn’t seen a hose in the 6 years I’ve owned it.

In hot, arid central CA washing cars is not an issue. Been doing it for decades, no rust...and my GTO's have 36 year old and 28 year old paint jobs respectively. Although in the past 5 years I do as you stated with the spray and use a California Duster. My ''67 got caught in the rain so it needs a real wash, as detail spray doesn't do the job on mud and sludge!

Fenders haven’t come off yet so I can figure out the bedliner thing in a few weeks. Here are a few progress pics.

So I bought the black base coat but of course I forgot the reducer.
Do you know what reducer I’d buy/use for this paint?

Also, will that ppg dbu 2002 work with this paint?

You need to ask the painter who is painting the car. General rule of thumb is not to mix brands of paints/reducers/clears. Stay with the same brand.

Yes. It is all in PPG line.

It looks like I’ll be using Global Line

D8767 reducer

DC4010 clear

On your base coat reducer, your painter needs to decide based on the ambient temp., but we always use DT90 (slow) reducer in our base colors. And in case your painter is not familiar with Deltron black, let him know not to reduce it 1:1, or it will never cover. Every one I know reduces that black 50%.

So essentially I’ll have 1.5 gallons to spray?

Is that clear good with the base coat I’m using?

I know these are questions for my painter but to be honest there is a language issue. He is Spanish speaking so his daughter translates for me. It isn’t always clear so I’m moving slowly.

Put down a dark grey sealer ...if that black covers like crap....you’ll use less product ,to get coverage. Or.... if you don’t go the sealer route...you can tint your primer to a dark shade of grey for the same effect.

I don't know anything about the clear you chose. You can look up technical info on PPG products online.

For reducer, do you prefer dt885 or d8767 for that delton black base coat 1683?
