Question WS6 front spring rate?

Just wondering if anyone can tell me what the front spring rate was for the WS6 cars?

I thought they were a great combination of firm but not harsh or jarring.

Not really an answer.......but Herb Adams......who was a Pontiac engineer responsible for a lot of good things on the 70 TA....recommended replacing WS6 front coils with base bird springs....after removing a 1/2 coil...

This lowered the car by an inch....while increasing spring rate.

The big sway bars reduced the need for stiffer springs

I have a copy of Herb Adams old Fire-Am catalog (circa 1977). In it he says:

"....you don't want to increase the rate of your front springs much above the 330 lb per inch the stock Trans Am uses."

Wow much softer then I expected.

I bought Hotchkiss springs for my 1st Gen bird are 600 lb/in. I hate them.

I always thought the WS6 bird drove nice and handled nice. Now I understand why. Big sway bar and softer springs.

I have 400lb springs in my TA with 3/4 of a coil removed. My civic will go over the local tracks faster and not bottom out where I'm bouncing off the bump stops on my TA.

Big sway bars only do so much and there are trade-offs.

My 80 TA has the WS6 package and the PHS MVMA paperwork shows 330lbs like everyone else stated.

320 lbs/in. When I replaced the 301 with a mild 455, Bird finally had the right stance. All WS6 cars had the front of the car higher than a regular Trans Am or Formula. When Herb Adams cut the front coil springs to get a stiffer rate spring, the factory just figured out the rate and then put a stiffer 320 lb full size spring in.
