That's some serious work you knocked out on the underside there!

He has a bunch of hours into it, he is having some trouble seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. When that happens I try to tackle some small project like the rear end removal or gas tank removal, refinish the brake drums ETC so he can say hey that is done. The core supt came out nice, thank you for it. Next we need to find a hood I think that will be the next trick anyhow. I am just about done on my TA so I will be focusing more time an effort on his car now so progress should come this fall (I hope). He has the interior on order so as soon as it is in it will go to my friend to have the seats done. Mark

I know it may be a bit late for this but there is a tool you can get at Harbor Freight called a scaler & it has about 7-8 tips on it & it vibrates & works great fro getting off rust & undercoating as scraping is a big pain in the butt to do. This tool take away a lot of just with just a little bit of effort. They run about $ 45.00 I think. They were designed to do just what he's doing right now.

Hmm Thanks I will have to look into this as it would come in handy, there is still a bunch left to do on it. Mark

Talking

Just an update, we did not fall of the face of the earth. Improving the garage for winter work and some work on my things jumped in front causing a massive slowdown. He has basically cleaned most of the underside of the car (still has a bit to go there) we changed out the steering box to the one he was gifted (thanks again for that) and we are at the same time going through the front brakes getting those all set up ready to roll. The rear axle is next to go back in and My father bought him some boxed control arms for it for Christmas. The interior guy is going to pick up the interior any day now, his summer job allowed him to save enough to buy the interior parts (covers, Foam, door panels) so he is getting there. He may be leaning on the board more because I will be going on another extended vacation to the sandbox with Uncle Sam so whatever help and encouragement he can get on here is greatly appreciated. The long slog of cleaning the underside has not been fun for him as we all know it is a blast

Yeah, that 'scaler' is what when I was in the Navy used to call a needle gun. Have to be careful with those, they can punch through areas, especially where it's gotten a little thin from surface rust.

Mark, can be sure we will help a fellow car guy out here, especially a Pontiac car guy! Posts of progress and pics and all will provide encouragement! We all I'm sure enjoy seeing progress!

This project is rolling right along IMO, and it's already started showing noticeable progress! Nice work, I'm feeling some of the excitement myself just watching!

Will be glad to keep the encouragement and advice coming.

Where are you headed this time? Iraq? Kuwait? Afghanistan?

I've been spending a lot of time in the Balkans lately (Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo), but not much "excitement" there these days.

It looks like I will be moving around a bit and may see time in all 3 if my little birdy is correct. Too early to know for sure, we have been putting in some late nights so he can see some progress, the underside cleaning was just not exciting to him as it is tough to see results.

Here are some pics of the things that have gone on lately: Trans is back from the shop (friend took good care of him on this one), springs, and a pile of parts.

some more: The steering box installed (thanks to one of the members for this), the rear end awaiting some attention, and the new used hump all set and in.

We just finished, Ball joints upper and lower, steering box, tie rods, sway bar, new rotors, wheel bearings, seals, pads, calipers, hoses. Few other tid bits in there too. So progress is happening again, never as fast as you want but this is how it works in life so it seems.

Work is looking great!

Whether you realize it or not, you're learning some great life lessons there.

Looks good Jon, proud of you keeping at it, wish I was there to help with it, but soon enough.

That car has come a long way! You are doing great work, floor looks great, I remember talking to you about how dirty and time consuming that job is! Keep it up!
