I know of a red 1974 SD455 T/A, automatic with no a/c that went to Germany.

It came up for sale in Charlotte in the late 80s. The car was extremely clean, always garaged. It belonged to a guy who was fairly high in the ranks with the military. He was posted in Germany at the time.

The car had a SR block or entire engine. It seems SD455s are capable of very high speeds, but it's a bad idea to actually cruise for long distances at those speeds. He said he took the SD out on the Autobahn and was cruising at pretty high speeds until it lost power and locked up, destroying the original engine. He told me that the mechanics told him he pumped the oil to the top of the engine faster than it could drain to the pan, running the bottom end dry. After some back and forth, they eventually warrantied it the engine.

The car was super nice, but around the same time I came across a red 1973 SD455 Trans Am and bought it instead. Does anybody know what happened to that car?

I would think that this car would have been a serviceman overseas ordered, may have even gone overseas and come back. The programs still exist I almost ordered a new challenger when I was in Afghanistan. The delivery and order sheets still look weird in that it is considered an overseas order. You can then pick up anywhere you want, I think with no extra fees.

I'm surprised, my Feb. built had this one. Do you think it was replaced? When you get around to restoring the car, could you take a picture of the backside?

Ok so I was curious and there is no radiator in the car right now so I took the bird off the header PN 493280 and a big L 7000 on the back. I did not want to keep anyone hanging either!

Thanks. I didn't mind a wait, it's become a curiosity more than anything. If you do come across a metal filled one, I'm looking to purchase.

If I see one I will snag it or let you know. I have not had this car long enough to really buy much for it so we will see how all this shakes out I will have to find a correct emblem. I have several other noses kicking around 74/5 that may have something decent on them as well, I have not looked. Hell I have not even cleaned the last of the funk off the car as it is really dirty. The block is headed to the machine shop for inspection next. Mark

So although I am not actively restoring this one at this second I have my dad running the block down to my machinist to verify it all and get set to at least assemble the motor and put it on a stand. I want to at least get that far and then I can go from there as well as try and convince my tranny guy to do one more for me.

This was interesting any ideas, serviceman?
Yes
The cars that actually left USA - Export Fee was minimum $15
And they would almost always have KILO SPEEDOMETER option .

The Deep Discount tells it too .
This car would have been closer to $5000 any other way.

What is the wording for the $158 charge in lower right corner ?
