Default 1966 Tiger gold GTO Project

Not really sure where to put the project posts? some forums have a place.

Anyway a year after buying my original Tiger Gold Freemont built 66 GTO from a family friend who's owned it since 1967 . I have the original California WV code Tri Power engine done, original M20 done and all the race equipment removed and back to stock.

Last weekend I trailered it to Yakima to get it dustless blasted. it's kind of messy but I have to say the dustless blasting with crushed glass and water does a great job it's fast and safe, there's no chance of panel damage. I was very pleased it saved me months of work with a DA and did a much better job.

I knew there was very little body damage and zero rust but it was nice to confirm it with bare steel to look at. next step is a few hours of body work then it's ready for my painter to prime, block and paint.

First picture is what it's looked like when I brought it home last summer.

Sheet metal looks amazing! Wish mine was that straight and solid. Guess that's the difference between a Cali car and Rustbelt Ohio lol. Keep up the good work!

Subscribed...and yeah, I'd say you're in the right place for a '66 GTO resto thread. Looks great so far.

Default This will be fun.

Yes, keep us posted and pics.

Does the WV still have all of it’s A.I.R. (smog) equipment?

Only 1550 built.

Chris.

Only 1550 really ? I would have figure way more than that.

No the A.I.R is long gone except for the 093 heads that are plumbed for it. . I wish I had it. I thought about looking for bits and pieces to put it back on but I think it would be hopeless.

All the 093 heads came with the “steel recessed square plug” to accommodate the A.I.R. if ordered.

The plug was removed from both heads and a aluminum mounting bracket with gasket was installed.

66 Tri-Power A.I.R. components are super rare.

One of a kind tubes, molded hoses, mounting brackets and the cool snorkel air cleaner.

Neat that some of that stuff still exists. but I bet if you bought every part that may even be for sale anywhere you couldn't come up with a complete set up. and if you could it may cost as much as the car is worth.

Something I'm probably going to have to live without.

Yeah... I wouldn't even bother looking for that stuff, unless you trip over a deal on all parts, cheap. IF I did find the parts, they'd stay in a box for potential next owner!
Just another moving part to maintain.

Glad to hear progress being made, a very cool car!!!

Two years ago I sold a complete set up (soup to nuts) including the air cleaner for $275.

Super solid body & TriPower 4spd = Helluva Car
Congrats

What is the paint code ?
Is it a "special paint" color ?

That A.I.R. stuff is out there - mostly in Cali of course.
I wouldn't buy any of it unless someone had the full system, or Very Close.

it's a special paint code " 1 " . PHS told me there's no way to confirm what color that is but since I know the history of the car since 1967 and there is Tiger Gold under everything on the car I'm sure it's Tiger Gold.

I suppose a smart guy would make it some real cool color .

Paint Code 1 sounds good to me , and you know it inside-out.

Any chance you could post a copy of the Billing History Card ?
I'd like to see how they handled the special paint cost,
and do a breakdown on the totals.

Its probably in the Misc Amt Box
But those items are "usually" listed at Dealer Net , not Retail.

Many Thanks !

I appreciate that favor AMX.
Will have to do an option breakdown to get cost of Tiger Gold.

616 was option number for the Positive Crank Case Vent , about $6.

Only have 1 other 66 Tiger Gold on file.
Just have the Buildsheet for it , but it is Paint Code 1 , also.
Built at Pontiac Plant.

Do you know which dealer it sold at ?
23-382 does not come up on the WallaceRacing.com data base.

Default Data Plate?

AMX,

Sorry to pick your brain, but did the aluminum data plate get “blasted”?

Did it used to be “black” originally, because it looks that way at the bottom of the plate.

All the early Fremont builds were taped off before the black paint was sprayed, but somewhere in 66 they started to get painted black.

Do you recall, or maybe an older photo before the “blasting” would show.

Thanks, Chris.
