No clue but would think it would be better than the flat floor version.Tom

POCI's "Smoke Signals" bathtub article gives nice recognition of your efforts Tom.

Can't speak to the bathtub directly because I have never owned one.......but with our sheet metal tunnel ram and 2 Holley 4 bbls. we had issues. The original sheet metal had a flat floor and it was very sensitive to stalling and backfire and would catch the intake on fire. This happened multiple times at the drag strip after a long burnout. We reasoned it was puddling fuel when the throttles were closed quickly from wide open during a long burnout. We modified the flat floor with a convex rib running from the port openings the length of the plenum. Helped some. The switch to the Wenzler Gutsram with the V plenum and no more issues and the car ran much cleaner in transition and was even quicker overall. So I am a fan of the V plenum.

As soon as im sure the converted intake is not needed for R&D it is going on my 62 421 GP in place of a 859 2-4 intake. Will use the same carbs with no change so will get a idea of how it drives.Tom

Id bet plenum size difference between the 2 intakes was more of a factor than the floor was, just my opinion.

I have said this before. When Randy was doing these intakes he sent me 3 diff versions to test.It was on a 462 HiPo street Eheaded build. One had the traditional flat floor, one was a V plenum with rectangular port openings and the other V with more of a round D shape entrance to the ports. They were within 5 HP of each other and as I remember it was like a 6200 engine.Im sure the V with rectangular ports wound have been the best at high RPM race engine.Tom

Refining the solid scan a touch.Jon Schmidt is doing it and kind of a perfectionist,he came to my house today and we put the intake on my engine.Making a couple small changes.More EZ for him to actually SEE the issue against me trying to send pics and explain on the phone. Tom

You can see in the port how little it is off with a 61-64 pass car port.

Looks to be just a fuzz, I'm confident Mr Jon Schmidt,
being the perfectionist he is, will get right on that...

I think the one piece 3D intake was going to be run over the weekend.Need to check. The converted intake is going on the GP in the next couple days and not sure yet is a air cleaner will fit.I think maybe a 1/2 inch can be cut from the top but don't think anything from the base. Will report in.Also found the early big top AFBs are shorter than the early 4in top AFBs.Will post pics if all goes well.Tom

wont fit under the hood of a 62 without some work. The rear carbs fits as is but tight with thses carbs and ACs.Im going to cut 1/4 inch off the rear AC and a 1/2 off the front AC.If that does not work im going to cut some of the manifold top.Car drives as good as it did with the 859 and the 625 carbs. If 4in top AFBs are used im real sure it wont fit without cutting the manifold top and maybe some off the base of the SD ACs.My choice for carbs would be single 4 409 chevys.WAY cheaper than max wedge and real SD pontiac NASCAR carbs.

If you pull the spacers out from under the carbs and put the trans am screens on top of them would it not fit?

Where did you get the long spring that goes between the two carbs do you remember?

John,no spacers!Double gaskets under the front carb and 1/4 inch gasket under the rear, needed to have the carb secondary linkage clear a bolt on the intake.Tom

Manifold looks great on the engine!! Very hard to see from the single picture. Are the carburetors sitting on a 1/2"-3/4" plastic spacer? Could this be removed if that's the case? The air filters are not familiar to me. What is their height compared to the SD/Corvette factory looking louvered ones? Thanks for the updates.
